The <strong>bilateral</strong>-exchanges <strong>project</strong> "<strong>Research</strong> on landscape and environment at different scales" is being
carried out (2009-2010) takes place under The Protocol of the 39 th Commission for Scientific and
Technical Collaboration between <strong>Romania</strong> and the People's Republic of <strong>China</strong>.
The <strong>project</strong> is meant to develop research and Education collaboration between the Centre of Expertise for
Sustainable Exploitation of Ecosystems (CESEE), Faculty of Biology, UAIC, Iasi, <strong>Romania</strong>, and the
Europe-<strong>China</strong> Centre Environment and Landscape, College of Geography, Fujian Normal University,
Fuzhou, <strong>China</strong>.

The <strong>project</strong> comprises two main sessions of exhanges:

The <strong>project</strong> works toward identifying common interests and topics for future research <strong>project</strong>s and
developing a set of tools (approach) to be applied and developed; communications in preparation.
General approach

The objective is to use remote sensing and satellite imagery and ground ecological information
(vegetation, soils, waters, land uses, etc) to develop a method of monitoring a set of environmental
variables which are relevant for ecological remediation and other aspects of environmental management
and sustainable development. This must evolve into future research <strong>project</strong>s (and funding).
River basins must be taken as units, for example near the cities of Iasi and Fouzhou. As <strong>Romania</strong>n case
studies is used the Ciric river basin near Iasi, <strong>Romania</strong> (as related to the CEEX2005 <strong>project</strong> 634, Director
Prof. N. Stefan), and extended to the Bahlui river basin (as related to earlier studies of the <strong>Romania</strong>n
team). Taking advantage by the resources extent in the European union, the discussion can be extended
to Prut and Danube. As Chinese case study is used the Min Jiang River system and basin in the Fujian
Province.
