EUROINVENT <strong>2012</strong><br />

Generally, as these vehicles contain dedicated sensors,<br />

controllers, actuators and remote control systems they are<br />

expensive enough to be used by large companies that afford<br />

them. The authors succeeded in devising a configuration based<br />

on off-the-shelf components, thus drastically reducing the<br />

building costs for similar performances.<br />

The developed ROV is meant to be used mainly for inspection of<br />

the vessel’s hull and for emergency applications in shallow<br />

waters, port basins or lakes) replacing in these situations the need<br />

New formulations using a combination of enzymes (three<br />

different proteases) and ionic liquids are proposed for the<br />

removal of proteinaceous varnish layers (egg white, animal<br />

glue, isinglass and casein). The treatment was applied on<br />

documented reconstruction of painted surfaces and gold leaf<br />

gilding. The use of ionic liquids (ILs) defined as “green<br />

Description solvents” as an alternative solvent to enzymes is an area in<br />

conservation science with a large number of possibilities: the<br />

ionic liquid is a material that can be designed (cation-anion<br />

combinations) to adjust to different requirements such as<br />
