intensive current consumption by the vehicles for the startup<br />

-Capture the entire vehicle braking energy;<br />
-Reduce the load on power units and traction sub-stations.<br />
Installation of supercapacitor energy storages featuring<br />
useful energy of ~2MJ (10F, 800V) ensures the economies<br />
of about 50KWh electric energy per one hour.<br />
Electrotechnical Institute has designed a supercapacitor<br />
energy storage system to be mounted in a container and is<br />
testing the model on a selected tramway line in Elbląg.<br />
In the case of sub-stations, the energy storage may be<br />
designed as a modular model with its units adapted to the<br />
sub-station power capacity. Production of a double-module<br />
(2x10F, 800V) system for Gdynia-based sub-station is in<br />
progress.<br />
