From Bauhaus to innovation workshop. 

The design ethos of Bauhaus, namely that the form of an 

object should be determined by its functionality, remains 

alive in Lamy design. The LAMY 2000, which caused a 

sensation when it was introduced back in 1966, made it 

clear as the first fountain pen of the modern era what this 

means. The LAMY 2000 was not intended as a status 

symbol but simply as an honest, well-designed precision 

tool for writing by hand. 

Each new Lamy writing instrument continues to be produced

awards than any other manufacturer of writing instruments. 

For instance, the first European Design Prize, which was 

presented to the company in 1988 by the EU. Or, as an 

alternative, the German ‘design oscar’ the Design Prize

Distinctive, avant-garde design is not 

the only special factor which epitomises 

the LAMY brand. Its great appeal 

also derives from the technical innovations 

which Lamy seeks to achieve with 

each new product in order to increase 

writing comfort. 

This ambitious company ethos 

is clearly highlighted by the new 

LAMY dialog 3 – a futuristic twistaction 

fountain pen designed by 

Franco Clivio. It takes the state of the 

art for writing with a pen and ink a 

beautiful step further. 

The rhodinised 14-carat gold nib 

of this palladium-finished fountain pen 

is retracted by a gentle twist action. 

A precisely closing ball valve protects 

the nib from dirt and drying out, so the 

pen does not need a cap. But that’s 

not all: a further technical highlight is 

provided by the shiny chrome clip 

which is raised or retracted by the twist 

action. When the nib is advanced the 

clip lowers into the pen body and 

therefore does not get in the way when 

writing. When the nib is retracted the 

clip lifts out again ready to function. 

All this innovative writing technology 

will definitely impress those who 

would like to write with flowing pen 

and ink, not just at their desk but also 

in meetings as well as out and about 

on business trips. They are invited to
