Benburb Priory, Armagh<br />

Benburb is set in the lush rolling hills of<br />

southeast Tyrone, in the heart of Northern<br />

Ireland. Besides the superb scenery and<br />

landscapes Benburb Valley Park has many<br />

other facilities that cover a wide range of<br />

activities. The Blackwater River with its<br />

serpentine trails has hewn a beautiful<br />

gorge across the countryside and is an ideal<br />

location for canoeing, fishing and walking.<br />

More recently Benburb has been growing as<br />

railway memorabilia. An impressive art<br />

collection includes works by many well<br />

known Irish artists.<br />

The Museum staff aim to ensure that all<br />

visitors feel welcome and are keen to<br />

help with inquiries. There is an extensive<br />

reference library, rich in local archive<br />

material, along with photographic and map<br />

collections.<br />

As well as the permanent displays, there is<br />

a range of temporary exhibitions throughout<br />

Navan Centre and Fort<br />

This site was the royal seat of the Kings of<br />

Ulster and the ancient capital of<br />

the Province. Start your tour in the<br />

‘Vanished World’ of lost myths, travel in<br />

the ‘Real World’ of archaeology and then<br />

enter the ‘Other World’ to hear the<br />

legends of the Ulster Cycle.<br />

There is an unique opportunity to visit<br />

an Iron Age dwelling and, through Living<br />

History interpretation learn about a past<br />

life. Finally walk the path of history to the<br />

great Ancient Seat of the Kings, Navan Fort.<br />

Arts Festival & Craft Fair, Banbridge<br />

The Community Arts Festival & Craft<br />

Fair takes place annually during the last<br />

two weeks of October. The programme<br />

comprises of a wide range of events and<br />

activities including art classes, exhibitions,<br />

adult and children’s’ workshops. The<br />

Festival Guide is widely available from mid<br />

September.<br />

Craft exhibitors from across Northern<br />

Ireland and further afield will showcase<br />

jewellery, furniture, ceramics, glassware<br />

and much more. There will be craft making<br />

demonstrations, children’s entertainment<br />

and live music.<br />

F.E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio, Banbridge<br />

The F.E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio is<br />

dedicated to the memory of Banbridge-born<br />

sculptor Frederick Edward McWilliam, one<br />

of Ireland’s most influential and successful<br />

artists. Frederick Edward McWilliam was<br />

born in Banbridge on the 30th April 1909.<br />

He died in London in 1992 and the executors<br />

of his estate donated the sculptor’s studio<br />

and its contents to the town of his birth. The<br />

gallery and studio houses the collection in a<br />

superb exhibition facility of gallery, garden<br />

and reconstructed studio.<br />

Gallery staff are on hand at all times to<br />

assist the public with information and to<br />

respond to enquiries. Free tours operate<br />

The Brontë Music Club is gaining a<br />

reputation as one of Ireland’s premier<br />

music venues. The centre has played host<br />

to many artists, both international and local,<br />

Solitude Park Banbridge<br />

The picturesque park, which is situated in<br />

the heart of Banbridge town and covers an<br />

area of 10.5 acres, has been rejuvenated<br />

beyond recognition. It includes an<br />

amphitheatre for open air events, a series<br />

of formal gardens, a sculpture trail and a<br />

youth dance zone.<br />

Gate Lodge Banbridge<br />

The Gate Lodge Memorial Park currently<br />

stands on the site of the former Banbridge<br />

Workshouse which was erected in 1841 and<br />

which later became the Banbridge Hospital<br />

in 1932.<br />

Linen has been woven from yarn spun from<br />

natural flax fibre for around 10,000 years<br />

and is one of the nature’s greatest fabrics.<br />

Although linen is woven in many parts of<br />

the world, it is Irish linen which is widely<br />

recognised as the finest of all.<br />

Ferguson’s Irish Linen was established in<br />

1854, and is widely recognised as being the<br />

finest of Irish Weavers.<br />

Art in the Wetlands is a visionary project<br />

Running the Lines, Derrytrasna<br />

Ballydougan is one of Ireland’s foremost<br />

potteries where the traditional craft of<br />

pottery making continues today.<br />

Today, each piece of pottery made in the<br />

workshop is still thrown and decorated<br />

by hand, using the same century-old<br />

techniques potters have always used.<br />

During your visit you can observe the potters<br />

at work in the pottery studio; meander<br />

through the extensive Gift Shop in the<br />

historic thatched Grade II listed Bloomvale<br />

Millennium Court Arts Centre contains<br />

a platform for showcasing contemporary<br />

Portadown takes its name from the Irish:<br />

stronghold”. Embark on a journey through<br />

the years of our past on the Portadown<br />

workshops in their chosen disciplines and<br />

produced permanent sculptures sited along<br />
