• Measure the electrolyte density of individual cells with a
commercial hydrometer. The hydrometer reading (see table
on following page) indicates the battery’s state of charge.
During measurement, the temperature of the electrolyte
should preferably be 20 C.
The gases emitted by the battery are explosive! Keep sparks
and naked flames away from the battery!
Do not allow battery acid to come into contact with skin or
clothing!
Wear protective goggles!
Do not rest tools on the battery!
Fig. 6.10.1.3-1: Battery
Electrolyte density
in [kg/ l] Charge status
Normal Tropical
1.28 1.23 well charged
1.20 1.12 semi-charged, re-charge
1.12 1.08 discharged, immediately charge
Normally, the fuel system is designed to ventilate air itself i.e. as soon as the electric starter motor starts operation
the fuel pump starts working and the fuel system will be de-aerated after some time automatically. It is nevertheless
essential to ventilate the system as follows prior to the first operation (as all hoses are empty):
Generators with iControl system do not need a Failure
bypass switch. At these generators the fuel pump can be
activated by an option of the control panel. See Control
panel manual.
