The Government provides significant technical, financial and physical assistance to farmers who are<br />

faced with considerable challenges in terms of high temper<strong>at</strong>ures, poor soil quality, high salinity and<br />

restricted freshw<strong>at</strong>er availability. Much has been achieved despite these difficulties.<br />

INFRASTRUCTURE<br />

Urban areas, tourism projects and industrial districts are being built on an unprecedented scale and<br />

corresponding investment is taking place in housing, road and rail networks, airports and ports,<br />

telecommunic<strong>at</strong>ions, electricity and w<strong>at</strong>er facilities, hospitals and schools. To d<strong>at</strong>e, the Government has<br />

invested heavily in infrastructure development, but it has also opened up its utilities and other<br />

infrastructure to gre<strong>at</strong>er priv<strong>at</strong>e sector involvement, so much so th<strong>at</strong> public-priv<strong>at</strong>e partnerships are now<br />

the norm.<br />
