Ned DeLoach’s
Diving Guide to Underwater Florida
networking with other former
Cousteau team members.
“I wanted to pick up their lost
legacy,” he explains. “Their stories
and their gear are worth preserving,
and I wanted to document the
people who built, tested and used
this gear.”
A product development
specialist by trade, Ryan recently
moved to Seattle where he
operates flashbackscuba.com.
The concept behind flashback is
to make this equipment available
to the public. “I don’t just want
to put this stuff in a closet or a
display case,” he says. “I want to
get it out and show it to people…
to actually dive with it.”
Among his working collection
are custom Italian-made tanks,
French regulators, custom fins and
one of the team’s silver suits, which
he carefully coats with sunscreen
before each use to preserve its
color. Other prized acquisitions
include one of Jacques’s personal
wetsuits, which has the initials
JYC penned into the collar. “It was
rotting in a garage in Vancouver
when I found it,” Ryan says. “It’s a
piece of history.”
