Passes Transport License Test<br />

Miss Helen House, local aviatrix and daughter of Mr. & Mrs.<br />

Walter House, Thursday became the first woman to receive a transport<br />

license at Bendix Field in South Bend. Miss House was successful in<br />

tests and examinations conducted by Frank S. Estile, Indianapolis,<br />

bureau of commerce inspector. She has been flying for three years<br />

much of the time at the local airport.<br />

Arnold Thomas<br />

Arnold Thomas, 20, son of L.M. Thomas, station agent at Grass<br />

Creek, left today for West Point where he will enter the plebe class at<br />

the United States Military Academy on July 1. He was a student at<br />

Purdue University and was appointed to the academy by Cong. Charles<br />

Halleck. The other appointee from the district is Max Price, Bourbon,<br />

who left today for the academy with Thomas.<br />

The Kings Jesters orchestra of which organization George<br />

Howard, John Ravencroft and Fritz Bastow are members, received<br />

much publicity this week when their bands picture was used on the<br />

front cover page of the July issue of the Billboard one of Americas<br />

foremost amusement weeklies.<br />

The band is composed of seven members and has been playing<br />

for several months in the LaSalle Hotel in Chicago. Prior to that they<br />

filled a number of engagements in other Chicago hotels and night spots.<br />

The picture shows the members of the band and their queen<br />

Marjorie Whitney. The Kings Jesters are known as Americas<br />
