Letter from VVRP Board Member Charlie Wishart
Dear Linda, Jane, et al,
First of all I’d like to express my sincere appreciation for all your
efforts in helping VVRP to continue our mission. Your contribution
to our Team 25 project is immeasurable in terms of healing the
wounds of war.
The tangible results are no less significant. This school that
you brought to Ta Rinh will provide opportunity to the children for
many years. These opportunities were not available in this remote
region before your contribution. Thank you and, of course, all the
sisters of Alpha Delta Kappa.
On a personal note, I am grateful for the time we spent while in
Hue. Especially memorable was the dedication ceremony for the
Alpha Delta Kappa School. The looks on your faces, the smiles, the
tears, helped me to appreciate all the work that VVRP does toward
its mission. I am grateful as well, and fortunate, to be a part of this
mission. Again, thank you.
Finally, an update:
Regarding the surplus realized upon completion of this project
of approximately $1,800 uSD, or 36,000,000 VND: I met with the
staff at HuFO to discuss the remaining needs of the school.
I was presented with a list as prepared by the school staff and
superintendent. This comprehensive list should satisfy all needs
at this time. Kitchen equipment, including but not limited to: gas
ranges, pots, pans, rice cookers, dishes, utensils, shelving, cups
and bowls are included. Teaching aids, such as a TV, DVD player,
toys, games, P.T. equipment, etc. are on this list, as well as musical,
mathematics, spelling, nutritional and situational aids.
I have approved this list in its entirety and will sign a contract
with Nam Dong District to make these purchases and deliver the
equipment to the school. This contract will bring your contribution
balance to zero.
These final details do represent the icing on the cake, so to
speak. Even more important is the fact that all of these measures
tend to motivate the district, the families and the educators to
continue improvements such as landscaping, garden building and
to maintain these things accordingly.
I’m very optimistic that this will happen.
My best of luck to Alpha Delta Kappa in all your future
endeavors, and my best regards to you.

Excellence in Action for World Understanding
of land. There were times of
white knuckles and breath
holding and uncertainty if we
would reach our destination in
one piece. Did I mention our
stop for blood soup for breakfast?
Funny how my racing
heart was suddenly stopped
and my eyes were filled with
tears when the Alpha Delta
Kappa Primary School came
into view. I truly thought I
was prepared for this moment
but there are NO words I can
write or even speak that can
put into perspective the first
site of our school. For each of
you, my dear sisters, were right
there, within my heart sharing
this once-in-a-lifetime experience!
Seeing the school, the
people and, most importantly,
the children smiling, clapping
and filled with such respect
will forever be burned into my
heart and memory. Knowing
that each donation by you, our
members, made this dream a
reality could never be reproduced
in my lifetime. From
the first step out of our car,
walking through this colorfully
decorated educational building,
meeting the Vietnamese
dignitaries, teachers, parents
and those beautiful, happy
children to the final ribbon
cutting ceremony was perfect.
Even though the language barrier
was there, no words were
needed. I know everyone
there felt great pride, love and
gratitude to Alpha Delta Kappa
for what we have given—a
bright future of learning!
