Trip description: All accommodation and travel is by charter yacht in the protected waters of the<br />

beautiful Whitsunday Island group. This Early Cretaceous Silicic Large Igneous<br />

Province with its large extrusive volume led to a different style of volcanic rifted<br />

margin. Visit spectacular views of tilted and partly exhumed volcanic sequences.<br />

Highlights: Great Barrier Reef World Heritage area, Whitehaven Beach, yacht charter, marine<br />

life,<br />

Special notes: Specific joining instructions apply to this field trip and will be provided upon<br />

receipt and confirmation of trip booking. Shared cabin accommodation only<br />

onboard yacht. All cabins have air-conditioning and ensuites. This field trip is not<br />

suitable for children. This trip will involve visiting coastal outcrops that may be<br />

hazardous and require moderate level of fitness.<br />

Day by day itinerary Day 1 - Saturday 11th August <strong>2012</strong><br />

Delegates make own way to Brisbane airport for own flight arrangements to<br />

Proserpine where you will be met and transferred to Abel Point Marina in Airlie<br />

Beach to board your boat; a large sailing vessel with private, air-conditioned cabins<br />

with ensuites.<br />

Sail to Hamilton Island where you will examine volcanic geology around Catseye<br />

Bay. Continue on to Whitehaven Beach for overnight anchorage.<br />
