Trip description: Auckland is built on an active volcanic field comprising about 50 basaltic cones<br />
and maars, the youngest of which is only 600 years old. Visit the Auckland War<br />
Memorial Museum’s newly built volcano exhibit for an overview of the geological,<br />
economic, and social situation. Trip some of the most prominent cones. The<br />
trip ends with a visit to the city’s and region’s Civil Defence and Emergency<br />
Management services.<br />
