Day 6 - Friday 3rd August <strong>2012</strong> - Adelaide River to Darwin<br />

After breakfast depart for Batchelor where you will visit the Rum Jungle, an<br />

Archaean basement, Brown’s deposit. Enjoy lunch at the Butterfly Farm in Batchelor<br />

before heading back to Darwin, travelling via Litchfield National Park to view the<br />

Depot Creek Sandstone and have a stop at Wangi Falls for a swim.<br />

On arrival into Darwin, check into your hotel with time to freshen up before<br />

meeting for dinner.<br />

Day 7 - Saturday 4th August <strong>2012</strong> - Darwin to Brisbane<br />

After breakfast make your own way to the airport for flight to Brisbane for the<br />

<strong>Congress</strong>.<br />

Equipment Required: Participants should be prepared for hot weather. Swimsuit recommended and sun<br />

hat, sun glasses and strong walking shoes are essential.<br />

Trip description: The Eastern Goldfields Superterrane of the Yilgarn Craton hosts world-class<br />

gold and komatiite-hosted nickel deposits within classic Neoarchean granitegreenstones.<br />

See the historic gold mining town of Kalgoorlie. Visit major mines and<br />

examine their geological setting. The Yilgarn is covered by a thick regolith blanket<br />

that includes salt lakes defining a vast paleodrainage system, transported material,<br />

extensive laterite hosting huge nickel resources, and deeply weathered in-situ rock<br />

Highlights: Historic gold-mining town of Kalgoorlie, Super pit, Western Australia outback and<br />

wildlife, gold-rush history<br />
