Trip description: Travel to Tasmania where the trip provides an overview of the late Proterozoic to<br />
late Palaeozoic geology of Western Tasmania Terrane. There are Late Proterozoic<br />
shallow water sedimentary rocks, Middle Cambrian ophiolite obduction, middle<br />
Cambrian volcanic and sedimentary sequences. To the east a deep water clastic<br />
sequence forms the East Tasmania Terrane and this transition is exposed in northern<br />
Tasmania.<br />
Highlights: Cave Trip (Ordovician limestone) and a winery visit in the beautiful Tamar River<br />
region. Spectacular coastal, highland and forest scenery.<br />

Arrive into Launceston and make your own way to the hotel.<br />

Day 2 - Sunday 12th August <strong>2012</strong> - Launceston to Ulverstone<br />
After breakfast depart Launceston by coach for Ulverstone. Today you will<br />
concentrate on coastal exposures near Ulverstone (Low tide is at 12.52) and then<br />
continue to Ulverstone for dinner and overnight.<br />

Day 3 - Monday 13th August <strong>2012</strong> - Ulverstone<br />
Following breakfast depart and drive west of Ulverstone where you will concentrate<br />
on Burnie Formation and the Rocky Cape Group. (Low tide 13.34). Transfer back to<br />
your hotel for overnight and dinner.<br />

Day 4 - Tuesday 14th August <strong>2012</strong> - Ulverstone to Launceston<br />
After breakfast travel to Launceston for a Cave tour in the Upper Mersey Valley.<br />
