Edwin James “Ted” Dickie (’43)
Submitted by his sons Paul and
Mark Dickie (’75) and daughter
Jan Watkins (’78)
Ted Dickie passed away at home
on Aug. 27 ’10 after a lengthy battle
with cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
A Life Class Officer of the Class of
’43, he was among the last survivors
of the Trueman House fire in 1941.
Mount Allison played an important
part in his growing up, not just the
formal teaching he received, but
in the life skills he learned and the
friendships he made. These would
serve him well through his entire life,
and many of the lessons he learned
there were passed on to his children.
Sidney Snow (’97)
Submitted by his daughter
Barb Matthews
Rev. Sidney Snow passed away
on Feb. 5 ’11 at the age of 93. In
the mid 40s he attended Mount
Allison before completing the
theological program at Pine Hill Divinity
College. He served in pastoral
communities in NL, NS, and NB
before retiring in Shelburne, NS.
He also extended his service in
roles such as mayor, chair of the
school board, chair of the Co-op
Housing Authority, padre with
CFB Shelburne and the Royal
Canadian Legion Branch 63. He
enjoyed travelling and reading but
it was a life-long dream to complete
his degree at Mount Allison.
This came true in ’97 when he
graduated with his BA.
Ronald N. Estabrooks (’47)
Submitted by his son
Kevin Estabrooks (’83)
On Feb. 17 ’11, Ronald N. Estabrooks
passed away. At Mount A, Dad
played sports and nurtured his
love for education. His life focused
on family, sports, community and
education; and he was committed
to helping others. He was an
active alumnus and two of his four
children “swam” in the swan pond,
my sister Brenda (Estabrooks)
Wentzell (’73) and me. Memories
of Dad and Mount A include sitting
beside him in the bleachers as
a youngster as “fight songs” went
over my head, to his smile on our
graduation days.
The following list is compiled from information sent to University Advancement from May. 19 ’11 to August 30 ’11. Please feel welcome to submit memories of departed
Allisonians you have known and loved, and we will be happy to print short versions in the Record and longer versions online (http://alumni.mta.ca).
