structure. in taking this step, we are laying the foundation on which we can further build our<br />

international business.<br />

To sum up: your <strong>METRO</strong> GROUP is more efficient, more customer-focused and more international<br />

than ever before – and is generating more growth as a result. We have already achieved more<br />

than one-third of the planned €1.5 billion in earnings improvements from shape 2012. more than<br />

anything, this is the result of our approximately 283,000 employees in 33 countries who contributed<br />

significantly to our strong business performance. their extraordinary commitment makes<br />

it possible to provide our customers with a comprehensive range of products and services. i –<br />

and my colleagues on the management Board – would like to express our deep gratitude to all<br />

employees of metRo GRoUP.<br />

the positive business developments have also been reflected in the performance of the metro share.<br />

during the year under review, the share clearly outperformed the German daX stock market<br />

index with a gain of 26.6 percent. naturally, you as a shareholder in the Company should benefit<br />

from our Company’s earnings performance. For this reason, the management Board and the<br />

supervisory Board will propose to you at the annual General meeting in düsseldorf on 6 may 2011<br />

that an increased dividend of €1.35 per ordinary share be distributed for the financial year 2010.<br />

What lies ahead in 2011? We will firmly consolidate and build on the successes achieved in 2010.<br />

this means that we want to set a <strong>Group</strong>-wide standard with these earnings achievements. While<br />

we have already come a long way with shape 2012, we will need more stamina in future. that<br />

means: our key focus in 2011 and 2012 must be on further increasing our productivity. in the<br />

process, we will benefit from the fact that we have internalised shape 2012 as the programme<br />

has become a part of our corporate dna. the entrepreneurial spirit that i can sense across<br />

metRo GRoUP reinforces my conviction that we will again implement a great number of measures<br />

in 2011 that will propel our long-term growth.<br />

<strong>METRO</strong> GROUP’s future success is closely tied to the success of our sustainability strategy.<br />
