MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPALS
2012-2013 SCHOOL PLANNING: On June 7 th , teachers will work together to create draft class
lists. In preparation for this collaboration, all students will complete a self-assessment and list five
friends who they work well with. We will ensure that every Greenfield student has at least one of
these friends in next year’s class. Parents choosing to make requests must do so by JUNE 6 th .
When creating class groupings, we take the following criteria into consideration:
• emotional age
• teacher – student match
• parent requests
• gender balance
• academically heterogeneous
groupings
• number of students with
Individual Program Plans
• work habits
• social dynamics and peer
relationships
• siblings taught by teacher
• For combined grade

PROACTIVE LEADERS BY ARRIVING TO SCHOOL ON TIME. We are happy to
announce that punctuality has improved since March progress reports were sent home. It is our
goal for all students to arrive to school on time. Students are considered late when they are not
in their classrooms by the 2nd bell in the morning (8:40 am) and afternoon (12:30 pm). As per the Alberta
School Act, all students are expected to attend school regularly and punctually. Let’s keep working together
to maximize and respect teaching and learning time for all students.

GREENFIELD SCHOOL VISUAL IDENTITY (LOGO): The Edmonton Public
Schools Communications team is providing support to all schools to develop or update
school visual identities at no cost to schools. They conducted a visual identity inventory of
all schools, and each school’s visual identity was reviewed/evaluated using a defined set
of criteria. Please complete this month’s feedback sheet to provide us with your family’s
input into this graphic design process.

CONGRATULATIONS TO:
• The 174 students and 3 staff members, who collected pledges for our 12 th annual Jump Rope
for Heart. As of May 25 th , we have raised $13,145.79 for the Heart & Stroke Foundation!
• Janelle H.! Her musical theatre group placed in the top 6 of their division with a score of 95% at the
Standing Ovation dance competition in Fort Saskatchewan on April 28 & 29!
• Yunsong L., Rm. 25, for winning an Edmonton Gold Medal (Top 5%), and Jian Feng W., Rm. 26, for
winning an Edmonton Bronze Medal, in March 25 th European Contest-Game Math Kangaroo held at
Concordia University College of Alberta. The total number of students who wrote the contest in all
participating Canadian cities is 1785 and 232 in Edmonton.
• Brinley M. & Rachel S., for having their artwork selected for display at the Shaw Conference
Centre Student Artwork Show running from June 23, 2012 to June 14, 2013!
• Elise C-R., Ethan H. & Sithara N., for having their artwork selected for display at the Kids in
the Hall Bistro in City Hall! The exhibition will run from mid-September to mid-December
2012.
• Ayva L., Elise C-R., Emily C., Isaac L. & Travis H., for having their artwork selected for display
at the Centre for Education from May 2012 to April 2013!
• Mrs. Royer and family, who welcomed Cale Lionel Royer into the world
on April 16 th , at 8 lbs 5 oz, and 21 inches long!

SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Please check with your child to ensure they have pencils and erasers available in their desk for
writing June exams. 2012-2013 Supply lists for next year have been sent home and need to be
returned to the office by June 22, 2012.
MOO CLUB MILK PROGRAM will end on Friday June 22 nd . Students will need to provide their
own drinks for June 25-27 th . Next year’s program will begin in October. Watch for information in
September. Thank you for supporting healthy bodies!

FRUIT FOR A FRIEND
Thanks so much for your support every Wednesday! As a result of our school community’s
commitment and generosity, we have provided our Grace Martin friends with 13,551 pieces of
fruit already this school year! Our weekly goal is to collect 350 pieces of fruit each week. The last
collection day will be Wednesday, June 20 th .
Reminders: Please do not send yogurt or cut-up fruit.

Nutrition Labels: The Nutrition Facts table can be helpful when choosing healthy foods. You can
compare similar foods in the grocery store to see which is the healthier choice! Tips when looking at the
Nutrition Facts table:
• Always look at the serving size so you are able to compare the same amount of each food. Serving size is found at
the top of the Nutrition Facts table.
• “% Daily Value” is a tool to help explain if a specific amount of food has a little or a lot of a nutrient.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
Co-operative Youth Leadership Program (Alberta Community and Co-operative Association)
provides an opportunity for youth to develop their leadership and teamwork skills. It is designed to give youth the
independence and confidence in their abilities while creating lasting friendships.
These seven day programs take place at Goldeye Centre, located near Nordegg, Alberta. This beautiful, remote setting
provides youth the perfect environment to build friendships, discover hidden talents, learn new skills, gain a positive
view of the world, and contribute to their own future. There are 4 levels to the Program:
Pre-Teen: June 30- July 6 (For youth who are 11-12 years old by June 29, 2012)
Teen: A- July 6-12; B- July 18-24; C-July 24-30 (For youth who are 13-14 years old by June 29, 2012)
Youth: A- July 12-18;B- July 30-August 5 (For youth who are 15-16 years old by June 29, 2012)
Grads: June 30- July 6 (For youth who are 17-18 years old, & have completed one of the other levels or an
equivalent leadership program.)
