DOUG COBURN E S<br />

Douglas has worn many hats over the years,<br />

including his role as an insurance executive<br />

and president of a brokerage for over 16 years.<br />

His fascination with the spa industry began<br />

with reflexology, where he graduated with<br />

honours under the office of the Reflexology<br />

Association of Canada in 2001. This course<br />

opened his eyes to the world of care, and the modalities that spas<br />

offer people. He was the first male to graduate from the Ottawa<br />

Academy of Aesthetics and Hair, and as a mature student witnessed<br />

immediately a gap in the industry when it came to men and spas.<br />

Douglas studied therapeutic foot care in Toronto in his early years,<br />

and then went on to Montréal where he studied skin care in a<br />

greater way under the wing of his mentor and teacher Carole-Anne<br />

O’Toole of Laboratoire Dr. Renaud. After the co-creation of The Little<br />

House Spa in rural Ontario, he ventured into the opening and operation<br />

and co-ownership of Canada’s largest men’s spa, Bodé Spa of<br />

Ottawa, Ontario. Doors opened for Douglas to work and study with<br />

Epillyss Wax Company in Montréal, Québec, in 2010 and he sold his<br />

shares in the Bodé project. In March of 2011, Doug proudly opened<br />

his new studio in Toronto, M.E. MaleEsthetics.ca, which acts as his<br />

base for offering continuing education classes in male esthetics, consulting,<br />

writing and spa services in downtown Toronto and beyond.<br />

Douglas is a master waxing instructor, public speaker, educator, and<br />

even has a small acting career, so you might see him outside the spa.<br />

Currently he is working towards his Bachelor of Science degree in<br />

the field of podology, which he hopes to complete in 2012, to better<br />

educate others in the modality of foot care.<br />

An excellent choice for students or recent graduates of esthetics:<br />

Back in part by popular demand is a more condensed course all<br />

about the feet. Douglas will take you on a journey regarding some<br />

of the actions of reflexology and advanced pedicure procedures. He<br />

will share his design about how you can improve your own pedicures.<br />

This is an excellent seminar for students, because it will open<br />

your eyes to other possibilities in and around this modality of care<br />

and ways to find other forms of advanced training.<br />

This is a must-see seminar for those who are attracting and servicing<br />

the male client. Doug will take you through some real case studies<br />

and demonstrate how you can transform the health of a man’s back<br />

and restore his skin. Furthermore, he will go deeper into the different<br />

signs and problems that affect men, and how we can turn the issue<br />

around quickly, offering simple tips and problem-solving solutions.<br />

JANE CRAWFORD S MS RS<br />

Jane Crawford is a profit centre specialist providing<br />

expertise to medical practices and medical<br />

spas to optimize revenues. Ms. Crawford<br />

is known in the medical and skin care profession<br />

as America’s foremost medical spa expert.<br />

Her entrepreneurial adventure began in the<br />

late 1980s when she opened the first medical<br />

spa in the United States, at the same time beginning work on one of<br />

the first hospital programs.<br />

Ms. Crawford serves on the Education Faculty of the American Society<br />

of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, is a founding member of the International<br />

Medical Spa Association, and is a licensed instructor through<br />

the University of South Carolina. An expert on the key ingredients for<br />

success, Ms. Crawford’s experience includes mastery of the unique<br />

nuances of day-to-day operations that optimize profitability. In addition<br />

to medical practices, her clients consist of physicians featured<br />

on television's Dateline, 20/20, and the Discovery Channel, as well<br />

as high-profile day and destination spas in the United States. She is<br />

the owner of Jane Crawford Skin Clinic in Greenville, South Carolina.<br />

She has practiced hands-on esthetic treatments for over 25 years. Her<br />

training spans the globe; her approach with her clients is far beyond<br />

the generic “Medical Spa-Day Spa service offering”.<br />

Ms. Crawford provides training for the esthetic and medical industry,<br />

she conducts seminars for physicians, practice administrators, spa<br />

owners/managers, estheticians, and nurses across the United States<br />

and internationally. In addition, Ms. Crawford has developed a private<br />

label, clinically based, botanical product line. An active freelance<br />

writer, she frequently contributes articles to skin care and medical<br />

industry publications. She is a co-author of Cosmetic Medicine & Aesthetic<br />

Surgery Strategies for Success, written with Renato Saltz, MD;<br />

and the cosmetology and esthetic industry textbook, Milady.<br />
