TEMAC Select is a simple to use yet<br />
powerful software program for the<br />
selection and <strong>as</strong>sembly of <strong>Temac</strong><br />
g<strong>as</strong>kets. The program outputs:<br />
• The suitability of TEMAC g<strong>as</strong>ket<br />
materials b<strong>as</strong>ed on a wide range of<br />
criteria including fl uid, temperature,<br />
pressure and approvals.<br />
• The recommended bolt torque,<br />
g<strong>as</strong>ket stress and bolt stress<br />
values for a given application.<br />
• Conversions of units related to the<br />
fi eld of bolted fl ange connections.<br />

Compressed Synthetic Fibre (CSF)<br />
sheet g<strong>as</strong>ket materials contain a rubber<br />
binder which is subject to ageing<br />
at temperature and over time. As a<br />
result, these materials exhibit a loss<br />
of fl exibility at elevated temperature<br />
which can lead to failure in service.<br />
In the p<strong>as</strong>t, this ageing process w<strong>as</strong><br />
compensated for by a high content of<br />
<strong>as</strong>bestos fi bers (up to 75%) so that even<br />
though the rubber binder lost fl exibility<br />
over time, the materials’ characteristics<br />
remained stable. The content of non<strong>as</strong>bestos<br />
fi bers in CSF materials is<br />
much lower, in part due to their higher<br />
expense and in part due to processing<br />
limitations, with the resultant loss of<br />
volume fi lled with cheaper agents<br />
and powder fi llers such <strong>as</strong> china clay,<br />
barite, talcum powder, silicon and<br />
magnesium oxides. Any loss of fl exibility<br />
of the binder system will therefore be<br />
refl ected in the material performance.<br />

TEMAC are represented in China by the Shanghai Victory Fluid<br />
Technology Co. ltd, who are responsible for the production<br />
and distribution of TEMAC products within this market.<br />
Since launching TEMAC products in 2007 the company h<strong>as</strong> grown rapidly<br />
and recently invested in new warehouse facilities for the storage of TEMAC<br />
sheeting. This allows the company to supply product to customers within<br />
less than 12 hours of receipt of order. In addition to storage facilities,<br />
the company h<strong>as</strong> also invested in further processing facilities to ensure<br />
that incre<strong>as</strong>ing customer demands for cut g<strong>as</strong>kets are met.<br />
According to Mr Zhang, manager of the TEMAC offi ce in China, “We are seeing<br />
tremendous demand for TEMAC products within our market. Our customers<br />
require a combination of high quality product and value for money and we are able<br />
to meet this need with TEMAC. We are very excited about future growth and are<br />

Fingersaver<br />
Every day, in many industries,<br />
employees sustain hand<br />
and fi nger injuries that are<br />
preventable and so using the<br />
correct safety device should be<br />
an essential part of everyday life.<br />
The Fingersaver is a safety tool that is<br />
designed to prevent injuries to fi ngers<br />
during fl ange <strong>as</strong>sembly. It works by<br />
keeping hands away from the impact<br />
position of the hammer on fl ogging<br />
spanners and from pinch points when<br />
using impact wrenches and hydraulic<br />
torque equipment. The product<br />
w<strong>as</strong> initially developed by an Exxon<br />
employee after hearing of a fi nger injury<br />
at their Rotterdam facility but is now<br />
used throughout the world by many<br />
of the leading oil, chemical and<br />
power companies.<br />
