2.7 Cosmetic pigments<br />

Colorants to be used in cosmetic products (e.g. tooth<br />

paste, soap, shampoo, or lipstick) are subject to several<br />

regulations.<br />

Main regulations are issued for the USA, the EU, and<br />

Japan. They are used as guidelines by most countries in<br />

the respective regions. The different cosmetic regulations<br />

define several permitted use categories or application<br />

fields for colorants.<br />

In the US, colorants for food, drugs, and cosmetics are<br />
