seems highly improbable that they were ever heard in performances. <strong>The</strong>y are<br />

included here, but play for so few bars that they could reasonably be regarded as ad<br />

libitum parts. <strong>The</strong> contrabassoon plays in just eight bars: I/vii/225–7 and I/vii/281–5.<br />

Similarly the third trumpet plays in only eight bars: I/vii/205–12.<br />
