Evaporation in a PCR reaction vessel not only limits <strong>the</strong> ability<br />

to work with low reaction volumes but also makes it difficult to<br />

obtain reproducible results. For <strong>the</strong> Mastercycler pro it has been<br />

<strong>Eppendorf</strong>’s aim to protect <strong>the</strong> PCR reaction from evaporation.<br />

While common PCR instruments press a metal plate onto<br />

<strong>the</strong> PCR consumable, <strong>the</strong> vapo.protect lid covers <strong>the</strong> PCR<br />

consumable with a cushion that conforms to <strong>the</strong> shape <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

consumable—no matter which consumable you use. The snug<br />

fit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cushion in combination with <strong>the</strong> high pressure and<br />

excellent heating capabilities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lid reduce evaporation to<br />

a minimum.<br />

Evaporation leads to increasing concentrations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> PCR<br />

master mix components, especially primers. This, in turn,<br />

leads to non-specific binding. The changes in concentrations<br />

due to evaporation both during <strong>the</strong> experiment and between<br />

experiments can be a cause for great concern for any scientist<br />

who tries to keep variables to a minimum.<br />

The gradient option <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mastercycler nexus features <strong>the</strong><br />

SteadySlope technology to ensure that <strong>the</strong> heating and<br />

cooling ramp rates are identical in both gradient and normal<br />

operation. Thus, you can expect identical temperature control<br />

Easy testing<br />

<strong>Eppendorf</strong>’s Mastercycler ep realplex s<strong>of</strong>tware is intuitive and<br />

user-friendly. The Windows ® -like interface allows for a clear<br />

and comprehensive organization <strong>of</strong> multiple viewing windows.<br />

The Plate layout screen is designed like a 96-well PCR plate<br />

making labeling and identification easy. This screen also<br />

provides a helpful “Hint” box in <strong>the</strong> bottom corner making<br />

Description<br />

<strong>Eppendorf</strong> ® twin.tec real-time PCR Plates 1 <strong>of</strong>fer all <strong>the</strong> advantages<br />

<strong>of</strong> regular twin.tec plates and give you <strong>the</strong> advantage <strong>of</strong> white<br />

wells for your real-time PCR. The limiting factor in low volume<br />

real-time PCR is <strong>of</strong>ten <strong>the</strong> remaining intensity <strong>of</strong> fluorescence.<br />

The white wells <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Eppendorf</strong> twin.tec real-time PCR plates<br />

reflect fluorescence much better than clear or frosted wells.<br />

Thus, lower levels <strong>of</strong> fluorescence are still detectable with<br />

<strong>the</strong> same instrument—just by using <strong>the</strong> right consumables.<br />

Additionally, white wells significantly reduce interfering<br />

background fluorescence and lead to increased homogeneity<br />

<strong>of</strong> replicates and reproducible results. The rigidity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

polycarbonate frame ensure easy and reliable handling—<br />

manually or automated. The polypropylene wells guarantee<br />

excellent and fast temperature transfer to <strong>the</strong> sample.<br />

Description<br />

The <strong>Eppendorf</strong> Temperature Verification System can<br />

perform a verification, and if necessary an adjustment,<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mastercycler ® pro, Mastercycler ep, Mastercycler nexus<br />

and Mastercycler ep realplex instruments according to <strong>the</strong><br />

manufacturer’s specifications. This system can also record<br />

temperature pr<strong>of</strong>iles and measure ramp rates to ensure that<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>rmal cycler is always at its peak performance level.<br />

The <strong>Eppendorf</strong> Temperature Verification System has 14<br />

Preventive Maintenance<br />

The Preventive Maintenance is carefully designed to keep<br />

<strong>the</strong> Mastercycler ep realplex in <strong>the</strong> best condition. The<br />

services include <strong>the</strong> following—cleaning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> instrument’s<br />

surface and block, a functional test <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>rmoblock with<br />

a temperature validation, as well as a full system check with<br />

background calibration.<br />

Color Calibration<br />

A dedicated color calibration protocol is carried out by <strong>the</strong><br />

service specialist. Based on this recalibration procedure <strong>the</strong><br />

specifically designed primers and DNA templates to cover<br />

Advantage Repair Service<br />

An easy to use value packaged service option when a<br />

repair is needed for systems not covered under a warranty<br />

or extended warranty. All it takes is one call to our Service<br />

Center and for a single fee we will repair <strong>the</strong> instrument,<br />

complete a full preventive maintenance, repair anything<br />

else we find, plus include a full year warranty on <strong>the</strong> whole<br />

system, not just <strong>the</strong> repair. Instrument return shipment is<br />

also included.<br />
