TCUSD Welcomes Back Staff
TCUSD held its annual welcome back breakfast for all District staff on
Wednesday, September 3, at Temple City High School. Board Members
Rachel LaSota, Janet Rhee, Bob Ridley, Matt Smith, Joe Walker and
Superintendent Chelsea Kang-Smith cooked and served pancakes to staff
members. After the breakfast, everyone gathered in the TCHS gym to
kick off the school year and recognized employees reaching milestones in
years of service to the District.
Sunrise Community Church
in Temple City is announcing
fall events for the community
at large. Whether you are looking
for family friendly events or
smaller groups that offer personal
times for fellowship and
study, Sunrise has an activity
this fall for you and wants to
invite you.
On Tuesday nights, Sunrise’s
mid-week Bible study resumes
with Pastor Andrew Kikkert.
The group is currently studying
the Gospel of Luke and all are
welcome to pull up a chair
around the table to discuss what
insights the Bible has in lives
and how this can give hope in
such a confusing world.
On Friday mornings at 9
a.m., Wendy Kikkert is beginning
a new women’s Bible study
in the Gospel of John. This

warm and inviting group is calling
out to women who are looking
for fellowship and more insight
into just who Jesus of
Nazareth was and how He relates
to our lives today. Each
study is open to anyone in the
community, regardless of
church background or affiliation.
Sunrise Community Church
is also continuing Game Nights
are on the first and third Friday
of every month from 7 to 10
p.m. There is no charge if you
are looking for a night out, but
donations for food and beverages
are always welcome. The
theme for Friday, Oct. 3 will be
baseball as we enjoy both the
Dodgers and the Angels playoff
runs.

deeper sense of fellowship, Sun-
Knights of Columbus sponsors
Tootsie-Roll fundraiser, Oct. 17-19
The Knights of Columbus Council #9128 of St. Luke’s Catholic
Church will be having an Annual fundraiser for the Marian Home
for the developmentally disabled on Oct. 17, 18, and 19. This event
will take place in front of Ralphs Market and Rite Aid Drugstore at
Cloverly Street and Las Tunas Drive. They will wear their yellow
vests and ask for donations, giving giant Tootsie-Rolls as a “thank
you” to the donors. The Knights have a goal of raising $5,000.
Marian Homes was initiated in February of 1986, after a group
of parents gathered to discuss the welfare of young adults with disabilities
and their welfare when parents were no longer able to provide
for them. Out of this meeting and many others that followed a
nonprofit corporation was formed in 1987.
Their goal is to provide a permanent residence to young adults
within the context of a “home like” atmosphere. Marian Homes
serves all of Southern California. There are no geographic limits to
serving their residents.
All young adults work outside the home in the local community
or in educational or vocational training settings. Several young
adults have jobs working at local restaurants, schools, and day care
centers.
The homes are staffed by a full-time house administrator who
lives at the home during the week. On weekends, there are live-in
relief staff members. A full-time program director oversees the staff
and the activities at the home.

for everyone to come together
for a simple evening of food,
singing and teaching in a casual
and friendly atmosphere.

who join us for fellowship and
the opportunity to learn what
it means to follow Jesus in the
21st Century.” said Pastor Andrew
Kikkert. Friday Night Fellowship
begins at 6:30 p.m. and
continues until 9:30 p.m. Both
events take place on the church
campus they share with
Westminster Presbyterian
Church.
