Temple City Kiwanis Club honors outstanding TCUSD students Text and Photos by Jerry Jambazian The Temple City Kiwanis Club is pleased each week to recognize outstanding students and their teachers from Cloverly, Emperor, Longden, and the Community Learning Center. Each student and their teacher is our guest for lunch. Students receive a certificate, a letter for their parents, a bumper sticker, a gift certificate from The Hat restaurant, and a photograph of them receiving the award. Temple City Kiwanis has been serving the community since 1939. Members are dedicated men and women who desire to make a difference in the quality of life for the Youth of Temple City. The club meets at 12 noon each Tuesday at Sir George’s Restaurant, located at the corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Live Oak Street. Kiwanis Club of Temple City honored Clarissa Chaparro and Sean Meehan, two outstanding students The Second Run-A-Mutt Dog Walk took place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Temple City Park. The City of Temple City and the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society sponsored this event. The Run-A-Mutt Walk allows the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society a chance to raise money to improve the health and well-being for some of the city’s less fortunate citizens, lost pets. Clarissa said, “The best things about school are the support I receive from the staff, the understanding peers, and the safe school.” The best thing that ever happened was moving back to Temple City from Lancaster, believing in herself and her achievements. Personal goals are to build a Peace Tower where people could go for love and care, to graduate, and have a better economy. Sean is 17 years old, has a brother and sister and is in Mr. Rios’ and Mrs. Billings’ class. Sean enjoys surfing, ski boarding, biking, and being with family and friends. Sean said, “The best things about school are the good faculty, nice classmates, and good equipment.” Personal goals are to build a park for special needs children, graduate from college, be a better person, and to move near the beach. Longden Elementary School Kiwanis Club of Temple City honored Daniel Mejia, Casey Morales, and Michelle Ho, three outstanding students from Longden Elementary School on Sept. 23. Attending with the students was teacher Dan Ferguson. Attending with the students was teacher Dan Ferguson. Daniel is 11 years old, has a younger sister and enjoys skateboarding, football, and reading 6 books a month. Daniel said, “The best things about school are the fun holiday parties, the teachers are very helpful, and the cool field trips.” The best thing that ever happened was going to Mexico and meeting his grandparents for the first time. Personal goals are to stop air pollution and global warming, build a monument at the World Trade Center, become a professional skateboarder, famous musician, and to someday become a doctor. Casey is 11 years old, has two older brothers and enjoys skateboarding and playing with her dog. Casey said, “The best things about school are learning new things, recess, and homework.” The best thing that ever happened was getting a puppy and rabbit for Christmas. Personal goals are to study more, build a humungous water slide, get better at volleyball, skateboarding, and basketball. Michelle is 11 years old, has an older brother and enjoys drawing and singing. Michelle said, “The best things about school are they are nice, they get new programs, and they treat you equally.” The best thing that ever happened was meeting her cousins from Burma. Personal goals are to build a new house for her cousins, become a straight A student, make new friends, become a doctor or an artist.

doctor.<br />

Casey is 11 years old, has two older bro<strong>the</strong>rs and<br />

enjoys skateboarding and playing with her dog. Casey<br />

said, “The best things about school are learning new<br />

things, recess, and homework.” The best thing that ever<br />

happened was getting a puppy and rabbit for Christmas.<br />

Personal goals are to study more, build a<br />

humungous water slide, get better at volleyball, skateboarding,<br />

and basketball.<br />

Michelle is 11 years old, has an older bro<strong>the</strong>r and<br />

enjoys drawing and singing. Michelle said, “The best<br />

things about school are <strong>the</strong>y are nice, <strong>the</strong>y get new programs,<br />

and <strong>the</strong>y treat you equally.” The best thing that<br />

ever happened was meeting her cousins from Burma.<br />

Personal goals are to build a new house for her cousins,<br />

become a straight A student, make new friends, become<br />

a doctor or an artist.
