AviTrader WEEKLY AVIATION HEADLINES Monarch signs base maintenance agreement with easyJet Monarch Aircraft Engineering (MAEL) signed a base maintenance agreement with easyJet to carry out a series of wing rear spar inspection service bulletins on their Airbus A320 fleet. Under the terms of the agreement Monarch Aircraft Engineerings will provide easyJet with a dedicated line of maintenance during the 2011/2012 winter period at its London Luton facility, where they will perform the terminating action of SB57-1154R1 & SB57-1155R1. An aircraft leaving MAEL’s Hangar 127 at Luton Airport, where maintenance on easyJet’s A320 fleet will be carried out MAEL MRO & PRODUCTION SR Technics signs exclusive agreements with Philippine Airlines SR Technics, part of the Mubadala Aerospace Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) network, signed exclusive Repair Cycle Management (RCM) and engine maintenance contracts with Philippine Airlines (PAL), the flag carrier of the Philippines. The RCM agreement is for PAL’s entire Airbus fleet, totaling 33 wide and narrow body aircraft, and covering in total 2,000 part numbers. The services provided will include component maintenance, management, logistics and engineering support. The engine maintenance contract covers 21 CFM56-5C engines for the entire Airbus A340-330 fleet. CIRCOR Aerospace to manufacture landing gear for BLACK HAWK Helicopters The CIRCOR Aerospace Products Group has been selected by Sikorsky Aircraft to execute a multi-year contract, with an initial award of approximately $25m, to manufacture landing gear for its H-60 – BLACK HAWK Engines available for lease: CFM56-7B26/3 CFM56-7B26 V2530-A5 V2533-A5 Call Joe Hussar at 1 617 828 3569 and Seahawk helicopters. CIRCOR Aerospace will perform the manufacturing, final assembly and testing of the landing gear at its Corona, California facility. Spirit AeroSystems to realign Boeing 787 Dreamliner wing component production To meet unprecedented demand for its products and services, Spirit AeroSystems announced plans to transition production of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner fixed leading edge composite wing component from Spirit’s Tulsa, Okla., facility to Spirit’s Malaysia facility. The realignment will allow Spirit to make more efficient use of its global manufacturing operations. Oklahoma employees working on the 787 fixed leading edge will be transitioned to other <strong>program</strong>s to help meet increasing rates. Increased production is planned for all Spirit facilities. Comlux Aviation Services gains full Bombardier Global ASF approval Comlux Aviation Services of Indianapolis, Indiana has been appointed by Bombardier as a fully Authorized Service Facility (ASF) for the Global aircraft family. A designated service facility for Learjet 40, Learjet 45, Learjet 60, Challenger 604, Challenger 605, Challenger 300, and Challenger 850 aircraft since May 2009, Comlux Aviation Services also held an Aircraft-on-Ground line maintenance facility designation for Global aircraft. With the addition of the full ASF accreditation for Global business jets, Comlux Aviation Services now services the full offering of Bombardier business aircraft. This phase will continue over the coming weeks and once completed, the front fuselage will be transported by Beluga to the A350 XWB Final Assembly Line in Toulouse. This will be the first major section of the A350 XWB to enter the Final Assembly Line. This front fuselage is destined for the A350 XWB static test airframe, the first A350 XWB to be assembled. It will be followed closely by the first “flyable” airframe for MSN1, one of the five flight test aircraft Airbus will build. The static airframe is used solely for ground tests that will demonstrate the aircraft’s ability to sustain certification loads and provide key data ahead of the first flight in the first half of 2013. FINANCIAL NEWS AAR reports second quarter fiscal year 2012 results AAR reported second quarter fiscal year 2012 consolidated sales of $475.9m and income from continuing operations of $17.5m. Results for the second quarter include $1.4m of transaction-related expenses for acquisitions announced during the second quarter. For the second quarter of the prior fiscal year, the Company reported sales of $440.5m and income from continuing operations of $18.1m. Sales to commercial customers increased 11% versus the second quarter of last year and were principally driven by strength at the Company’s supply chain business. Sales to government and defense customers increased 5% compared to last year due to sales growth at AAR Airlift and at the Company’s Defense Logistics business. The Company generated $30.4m in cash flow from operations and had capital expenditures, exclusive of the Airinmar acquisition, of $13.4m during the second quarter. FedEx Corp. reports strong second quarter revenue and earnings growth FedEx Corp. reported consolidated revenues of $10.59bn for the 2nd quarter, up 10% from $9.63bn the previous year. Operating income was $780m, up 66% from $469m last year, while operating margin was 7.4%, up from 4.9% the previous year. Net income was $497m, up 76% from $283m a year ago. FedEx projects earnings to be $1.25 to $1.45 per diluted share in the third quarter and reconfirms its forecast of $6.25 to $6.75 per diluted share for fiscal 2012. This guidance assumes the current market outlook for fuel prices, normal winter weather and moderate growth in the global economy. Jackson Square Aviation closes $435m term loan Jackson Square Aviation (JSA) closed a $435m secured term loan, which provides the Company with committed long-term debt capacity for eleven next-generation aircraft. Financing for the facility was provided by DVB Bank SE, Norddeutsche Landesbank, and Citibank. “This is something of a landmark deal for our company,” commented Scott Weiss, JSA’s COO and EVP, Capital Markets. “It’s the largest facility we have executed to date and the first to mix widebody and narrowbody aircraft. Our lender group certainly worked hard to execute for us in a turbulent financing environment.” MILITARY & DEFENSE Australian Aerospace delivers 15th MRH90 Helicopter Local defence manufacturer, Australian Aerospace, delivered the 15th MRH90 (Multi-Role Helicopter), tail number 014, to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) – the second such handover in two weeks. Australian Aerospace’s production facility on Brisbane Airport is assembling and delivering 46 MRH90s to replace Army and Navy Black Hawk and Sea King helicopters. £59m Indian Hawk spares contract for BAE Systems BAE Systems secured a £59m contract with the Indian Air Force (IAF) and aircraft manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the provision of spares and ground support equipment to aid the Hawk training aircraft operations. This brings the total value of Hawk-related contracts won in India to more than £600m in the last 18 months. Hawk is manufactured in India under license by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited with materials, parts and support services provided by BAE Systems. 7 Boeing delivers 2nd Peace Eye AEW&C aircraft to Republic of Korea Air Force Boeing delivered the second Peace Eye <strong>737</strong> Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft to the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF). The aircraft was delivered ahead of schedule to ROKAF Base Gimhae, the main operating base for the Peace Eye fleet. Peace Eye No. 2 is the first aircraft in the fleet to be modified into an AEW&C configuration by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) at its facility in Sacheon. Two additional Peace Eye aircraft are being modified by KAI in Sacheon and will be delivered to the ROKAF in 2012. Ducommun awarded $14m in contracts from Bell Helicopter Ducommun Incorporated received contracts totaling approximately $14m from Bell Helicopter. The Ducommun LaBarge Technologies business unit (DLT), a provider of electronics manufacturing services (EMS), will produce electronic assemblies and wiring harnesses for the V-22 Osprey military aircraft. DLT has supported the V-22 <strong>program</strong> since 2005. DLT expects the new contracts will expand production on the V-22 <strong>program</strong> at the Company’s Huntsville, Ark., and Joplin, Mo., operations through the fall of 2013. Mexican Air Force takes delivery of Airbus Military C295 The Mexican Air Force has taken delivery of a new C295 aircraft that it <strong>order</strong>ed from Airbus Military. This <strong>order</strong> is in addition to the five C295s delivered last year and that the Mexican Secretary of Defence already operates. The primary use of the aircraft will be transport of troops and paratroops. It can also be readily configured for medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) or can carry up to nine tonnes of palletized or bulk cargo. OGMA and EMBRAER sign partnership agreement for KC-390 OGMA and EMBRAER Defense and Security signed a partnership agreement for the KC-390 aircraft development <strong>program</strong>. The contracted work package covers the industrialization, production and product support phases of the KC-390 central fuselage panels, elevators, fairings and landing-gear doors. Production of the first KC-390 prototype is to begin in 2013 and the aircraft’s maiden flight is scheduled for 2011.
