This transport business is all very well, but
what if there’s nothing but your feet between
you and the open road? Well you’ll need nice
shoes, of course. Intersport has a good range
of trainers and those Fitflops which claim
to hone and tone; and across the road The
Outdoor Shop sells proper walking boots.
For the chap who likes a little bit more flam
with his boyance, Paul Clark offers some
snazzy patterned flip-flops, and Wickle for
Men (down the stairs next to the main shop)
has funky trainers. New shoe and accessory
shop Twinkle Toes in the Needlemakers has
a fine range of sandals, but their big summer
must-have is a pair of pumps. These come in
all colours from pink to leopard-skin at £25.
They also stock foot-cream and a rainbow
of nail varnish colours. Sassy Shoes (next to
Cancer Research) has great sandals such as
stylish-yet-comfy ones from Rohide, and a sale
that runs till the end of August. A&A Nails
on the High Street do luxury pedicures, with
the bonus of getting your dry-cleaning done
at the same time (they share the premises with
Laceys). Taylored Nails in the Cliffe also offer
an array of pedicures, starting from a basic one
at £7.50. For the next level of prettifying Tizz’s
have a tray-full of toe-rings. And for the more
practical purchases St Anne’s Pharmacy can
supply no end of pumice stones, nail clippers,
gel inserts and blister plasters. Beth Miller
