GUERRILLA CRAFT
K I D S L I S T I N G S
Guerrilla Craft will teach teens a variety of
craft skills, focusing on innovative ways to
customise clothes.
The three day-long workshops will be informal,
and encourage students to experiment
with their own ideas. One session will focus
on using ‘found materials’ one wouldn’t normally
think of attaching to clothes, such as
builders’ plastic and bubble wrap. Hopefully
not meat, though.
Wed 10th- Fri 12th, Lewes Castle Education
Room, 10am-3.30pm, £20/day or £50 for all
three (materials are provided, so booking is
essential), guerrillacraftlewes@gmail.com or
INTREPID THEATRE
Intrepid is a good name for a theatre company
preparing to stage Peter Pan in a week, using
a group of 5-12-year-olds.
The company’s week-long workshops are always
popular, as they let kids get involved with
all parts of setting up the show. The morning
sessions focus on acting, while afternoons are
reserved for crafts, including costume and set
design. Parents and friends will be able to see
the results of the kids’ efforts at the grand performance
on Friday afternoon.
There are two workshops in Lewes, one starting
on the 1st, another on the 22nd. Southover
Church Hall, 9.15am—3.15pm Monday-Friday,
£130 per child (£100 for siblings), 01273
476226 or ofce@intrepidinspires.co.uk
(If you miss out on a place, Intrepid’s also run-
ning a Saturday morning series of classes at
the All Saints Saints Centre, starting in September.)
TRAIN & CAR DAYS OUT
The Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum
hosts a marvellous collection of
vintage cars by Lamborghini, BMW, and
Bentley, as well as several that look a bit
like Brum.
Visitors might want to bring a birdwatcher’s
guide. The site hosts around 125 of
the world’s 147 wildfowl species, including
Australian black swans. There are 12
acres of wood to explore, by foot, or on
the miniature train. (Open daily, 10.30am
- 5.30pm, £8/7/6, 01825 840573, http://
www.bentley.org.uk/)
For a more comprehensive rail experience,
head to the Lavender Line in Is-
eld. On Bank Holiday Monday (29th),
Sun 7th and Sun 28th, steam trains will be
running the picturesque two-mile circuit
through Little Horsted.
Diesel trains will be in action on other
Sundays, as well as every Wednesday and
Thursday of the month. They go every
half hour from 11am to 4.30, and if you’re
lucky (or is that unlucky?), you might see
one of the Line’s ghosts: the lady in white
or the drunken gamekeeper.
There’s plenty more to see, including a
steam-era café, a Grade II-listed signalbox,
a model railway, and a
conservation area, with
wildlife posters telling
you what to
look out for.
