If you’ve got a bike sitting in the shed (or blocking the
landing in my case), then the recently announced Lewes Cycle
Challenge could provide you with an incentive to actually
get it through the door, and out on the street. The event, run
by Lewes District Council and the Challenge for Change
organisation, is aimed at local b<strong>us</strong>inesses and takes place
between 6-26th September. It has a simple aim - to persuade
more of <strong>us</strong> to get back on a bike. A quick look at their website,
showed that quite a few local companies, and organisations are
looking to take part, including Lewes Prison, S<strong>us</strong>sex Police, Glyndebourne Productions, Waitrose and the
District Council themselves, of course.
Prizes are on offer, including cinema tickets (simply persuade someone who hasn’t ridden a bike for a year to
do so, and you and they will receive a free cinema ticket), and a 2011 Trek 7300 hybrid bike courtesy of the
folks at Cycle Shack. The bike is worth £550, so that alone makes taking part seem like a good idea.
All you have to do to qualify for the draw for the bike, is to cycle at least once during the period, and then
log your trip on the website. Seems so simple in fact that I’m planning to get Viva Magazines signed up
sharpish. And Lewes Football Club, for that matter. NW
