SEC. 499-al2. Compensation <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficials.<br />

1 Compensation for counting judges and clerks shall be the same<br />

2 as now provided by law for clerks and judges <strong>of</strong> election.<br />

SEC. 499-al3. Applicability <strong>of</strong> law.<br />

1 This chapter shall apply to all general and primary elections, but<br />

2 shall not apply to school elections or town elections, or where voting<br />

3 machines are used.<br />

SEC. 499-al4. Violations—penalty.<br />

1 Any judge or clerk violating the provisions <strong>of</strong> this chapter shall<br />

2 be guilty <strong>of</strong> a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction there<strong>of</strong>, shall be liable<br />

3 to a fine <strong>of</strong> not to exceed five hundred dollars, or imprisonment in the<br />

4 county jail not to exceed six months. Any person so convicted shall be<br />

5 disfranchised for five years thereafter. And anyone circulating or<br />

6 attempting to circulate any information with reference to the result<br />

7 <strong>of</strong> the counted ballots shall be guilty <strong>of</strong> a misdemeanor and punished<br />

8 as provided by this section.<br />

CHAPTER 8.<br />

VOTING MACHINES.<br />

SECTION 508. Ballots—form—party circle.<br />

1 All ballots shall be printed in black ink on clear, white material,<br />

2 <strong>of</strong> such size as will fit the ballot frame, and in as plain, clear type as the<br />

3 space will reasonably permit. The party name for each political<br />

4 party represented on the machine shall be prefixed to the list <strong>of</strong> candi-<br />

5 dates <strong>of</strong> such party. The order <strong>of</strong> the list <strong>of</strong> candidates <strong>of</strong> the several<br />

6 parties or organizations shall be arranged as provided in section four<br />

7 hundred thirty-two <strong>of</strong> this supplement, except that the lists may be<br />

8 arranged in horizontal rows or vertical columns.<br />

9 The provisions <strong>of</strong> section four hundred thirty-two <strong>of</strong> this supple-<br />

10 ment shall not be applicable to voting machines owned prior to April<br />

11 first, nineteen hundred twenty-one, by any county or municipality in<br />

12 <strong>Iowa</strong>, in so far as they relate to the party circle and the form <strong>of</strong> the<br />

13 ballot generally ; but nothing herein contained shall prohibit the use <strong>of</strong><br />

14 voting machines equipped to comply with the foregoing provisions.<br />
