SEC. 499-a6. Manner <strong>of</strong> counting ballots.<br />

1 Whenever the counting board receives from the receiving board<br />

2 the ballot box they shall also be furnished a statement from the receiv-<br />

3 ing board giving the number <strong>of</strong> votes as shown by the poll books up<br />

4 to that time,, which shall equal the number <strong>of</strong> votes in the ballot box.<br />

5 The counting board shall on opening the ballot box first count the<br />

6 ballots therein. If the number <strong>of</strong> ballots found in the ballot box<br />

7 exceeds the number as shown by the statement received from the<br />

8 receiving board the counting judges shall proceed to examine the <strong>of</strong>fi-<br />

9 cial indorsement <strong>of</strong> said ballots, and, if any ballots are found that do<br />

10 not bear proper <strong>of</strong>ficial indorsement, said ballots shall be kept separate<br />

11 and a record <strong>of</strong> such ballots shall be made and returned under the head<br />

12 <strong>of</strong> excess ballots. The counting board shall then proceed to count the<br />

13 ballots as now provided by law.<br />

SEC. 499-a7. Secrecy <strong>of</strong> ballot during count.<br />

1 The space or room occupied by the counting board shall be policed<br />

2 in such manner as to prevent any person, or persons, from gaining<br />

3 information regarding the progress <strong>of</strong> the count before the polls are<br />

4 closed.<br />

SEC. 499-a8. Presence <strong>of</strong> persons during count.<br />

1 No person, or persons, shall be admitted into the space or room<br />

2 where such ballots are being counted until the polls are closed except<br />

3 the counting board.<br />

SEC. 499-a9. Counting quarters—guarding ballots.<br />

1 Boards <strong>of</strong> supervisors shall provide suitable places for the count-<br />

2 ing <strong>of</strong> ballots, but when it becomes necessary to remove the ballot box<br />

3 from one room to another, or from one building to another, and at all<br />

4 times when they are in possession <strong>of</strong> the counting board, they shall be<br />

5 under constant observation <strong>of</strong> at least two counting judges.<br />

SEC. 499-alO. Certification <strong>of</strong> count—return <strong>of</strong> books and ballots.<br />

1 Both boards shall certify to all matters pertaining to counting and<br />

2 canvassing <strong>of</strong> votes and shall return poll books and ballots to the<br />

3 county auditor as provided by law.<br />

SEC. 499-all. Special ballot box for assessor.<br />

1 When the precinct includes a town, or a part there<strong>of</strong>, together<br />

2 with territory outside the limits <strong>of</strong> such town, the township trustees<br />

3 shall prepare a separate ballot box to receive the vote for township<br />

4 assessor, which shall be on separate ballots, and only the ballots <strong>of</strong><br />

5 persons living outside the limits <strong>of</strong> such town shall be placed in said<br />

6 ballot box.<br />
