CHAPTER 1-A.<br />

STATE BANNER.<br />

SECTION 337-al. Specifications <strong>of</strong> state banner.<br />

1 The banner designed by the <strong>Iowa</strong> society <strong>of</strong> the daughters <strong>of</strong> the<br />

2 American revolution and presented to the state <strong>of</strong> <strong>Iowa</strong>, which banner<br />

3 consists <strong>of</strong> three vertical stripes <strong>of</strong> blue, white and red, the blue stripe<br />

4 being nearest the staff and the white stripe being in the center, and<br />

5 upon the central white stripe being depicted a spreading eagle bearing<br />

6 in its beak blue streamers on which is inscribed, in white letters, the<br />

7 state motto, "Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain"<br />

8 and with the word "<strong>Iowa</strong>" in red letters below such streamers, as<br />

9 such design now appears on the banner in the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> the governor<br />

10 <strong>of</strong> the state <strong>of</strong> <strong>Iowa</strong>, be and the same is hereby adopted as a distinctive<br />

11 state banner, for use on all occasions where a distinctive state symbol<br />

12 in the way <strong>of</strong> a banner may be fittingly displayed.<br />

SEC. 337-a2. Use <strong>of</strong> state banner.<br />

1 Such design may be used as a distinctive state banner and may<br />

2 as such be displayed on all proper occasions where the state is <strong>of</strong>ficially<br />

3 represented as distinct from other states, either at home or abroad, or<br />

4 wherever it may be proper to distinguish the citizens <strong>of</strong> <strong>Iowa</strong> from<br />

5 the citizens <strong>of</strong> other states, such display in all cases to be subservient<br />

6 to and along with the display <strong>of</strong> the national emblem and, when dis-<br />

7 played with the latter, to be placed beneath the stars and stripes.<br />

CHAPTER 3.<br />

PENSIONS.<br />

SECTION 341. Northern border brigade—Spirit Lake relief expedition.<br />

The survivors <strong>of</strong> the northern border brigade, as shown by the<br />

roster <strong>of</strong> <strong>Iowa</strong> soldiers, volume six, pages one hundred eighty-one to<br />

two hundred seven, inclusive, or their widows, shall receive a monthly<br />

pension <strong>of</strong> twenty dollars, during the lifetime <strong>of</strong> each such survivor,<br />

or his widow and widows <strong>of</strong> the members <strong>of</strong> Spirit Lake expedition<br />

<strong>of</strong> eighteen hundred fifty-seven, to be paid from the state treasury on<br />

the proper voucher being made, and out <strong>of</strong> funds not otherwise appropriated;<br />

provided that in cases where the said survivors are now<br />

receiving pensions from the federal government this section shall not<br />

apply.<br />
