24 Officers and enlisted men drafted into federal service through the<br />

25 guard, shall upon discharge from such service continue to serve the<br />

26 balance <strong>of</strong> their enlistment period the same as though it had not been<br />

27 interrupted by such draft.<br />

SEC. 320. Compensation—transportation, subsistence and quarters—injured<br />

men—hospital service—loss <strong>of</strong> property—appropriation.<br />

1 The guard, when in active service <strong>of</strong> the state upon the call <strong>of</strong><br />

2 the governor, and when paraded for drill, encampment, target prac-<br />

3 tice, school <strong>of</strong> instruction, or other duty under orders <strong>of</strong> the governor,<br />

4 shall be paid the following compensation for time actually on duty;<br />

5 each commissioned <strong>of</strong>ficer shall receive for such service the pay <strong>of</strong><br />

6 his grade in the United <strong>State</strong>s army, without allowances, increase or<br />

7 additions on account <strong>of</strong> length <strong>of</strong> service, and without subsistence or<br />

8 other allowances other than transportation and quarters, except as<br />

9 herein otherwise provided; each enlisted man shall be furnished<br />

10 transportation, subsistence and quarters, and in addition thereto the<br />

11 pay <strong>of</strong> his grade in the United <strong>State</strong>s army. Officers and enlisted men<br />

12 <strong>of</strong> the guard incapacitated by injury or illness caused by participation<br />

13 in encampments, maneuvers or other outdoor exercises which extend<br />

14 beyond the period <strong>of</strong> time covered by the order directing the duty to<br />

15 be performed, shall receive from the state, upon approval <strong>of</strong> the claim<br />

16 by the governor, the pay <strong>of</strong> their respective grade and medical service<br />

17 during the period <strong>of</strong> time that the disability prevents their resuming<br />

18 their civil occupation ; enlisted men shall also receive hospital service,<br />

19 if needed, and subsistence. When in actual service <strong>of</strong> the state, pur-<br />

20 suant to the order <strong>of</strong> the governor, the compensation and expenses <strong>of</strong><br />

21 the guard and claims <strong>of</strong> the members there<strong>of</strong> for injury or illness<br />

22 incurred in line <strong>of</strong> duty, shall be paid out <strong>of</strong> any funds in the state<br />

23 treasury, not otherwise appropriated, upon warrants drawn by the<br />

24 auditor <strong>of</strong> state; the claims for such service shall be audited and<br />

25 allowed by the governor. Should any part <strong>of</strong> the compensation above<br />

26 provided, be paid by the United <strong>State</strong>s, there shall be paid from the<br />

27 state treasury only that part there<strong>of</strong> not paid by the United <strong>State</strong>s.<br />

28 When on active duty on rifle practice, range competition, or schools<br />

29 <strong>of</strong> instruction, <strong>of</strong>ficers shall receive such compensation or allowances<br />

30 as the governor shall designate in orders with reference thereto.<br />

31 Compensation, subject to payment by the state <strong>of</strong> <strong>Iowa</strong>, to the <strong>of</strong>ficers<br />

32 and enlisted men <strong>of</strong> the guard for military service, shall be subject<br />

33 to stoppage <strong>of</strong> payment for loss or damage to public property issued<br />

34 them for military uses.<br />
