§1 7020-7037. ATTORNEYS AND COUNSELORS. Tit. XXVIII, Ch. 8.
CHAPTER 7.
JURY COMMISSION.
SECTION 7020. Number of grand and petit jurors—duty of auditor.
1 The commission shall meet in a room, which shall be provided by
2 the board of supervisors, in the courthouse, in the county in which
3 they are appointed, on the second Monday after the general election
4 in each year such election is held, and select the names of persons,
5 having the qualification of jurors, and who are of good moral char-
6 acter, to serve as grand and petit jurors, and talesmen, for the two
7 years beginning on the first day of January next after the meeting
8 of such commission.
9 The names of one hundred persons shall be drawn from which
10 the grand jurors shall be selected : the names of a number of persons
11 equal to one-seventh of the whole number of qualified electors in the
12 county, who voted at the last preceding general election, as shown by
13 the poll books of such election, shall be drawn, from which the petit
14 jurors shall be selected ; and the names of five hundred qualified elec-
15 tors, who voted at the last preceding general election, as shown by
16 the poll books of said election, in the city or town, in which the district
17 court is held, and the township or townships in which said city or town
18 is located, shall be drawn, from which talesmen shall be selected, and
19 the names so drawn shall constitute the grand and petit jury lists,
20 and the list of talesmen from which grand and petit jurors and tales-
21 men shall be selected, for the biennial period commencing with the
22 first day of January next after the meeting of such commission.
23 The county auditor shall compute in the manner provided by law,
24 and furnish the commission, a statement of the number of grand and
25 petit jurors and talesmen, to be drawn from each voting precinct in
26 the county, and the commission shall draw the number of persons so
27 proportioned by the county auditor, from each of such voting precincts.
28 In counties which are divided for judicial purposes, and in which
29 courts are held at more than one place, the grand and petit jurors,
30 and talesmen, selected to serve in the respective courts, shall be drawn
31 from the division of the county in which the court is held, at which
32 they are required to serve.
