CHAPTER 1.<br />

JUSTICE OF THE PEACE COURT.<br />

SECTION 6717. In adjoining township.<br />

1 If there is no justice in the proper township qualified or able to act,<br />

2 it may be commenced in any adjoining township in the same county.<br />

3 If there be no such justice in an adjoining township, it may be com-<br />

4 menced before the justice in the same county nearest to the township in<br />

5 which the defendant resides.<br />

SEC. 6837. Accounting for fees—compensation.<br />

1 Justices <strong>of</strong> the peace and constables in townships having a popu-<br />

2 lation <strong>of</strong> more than twelve thousand shall pay into the county treasury<br />

3 all criminal fees collected in each year.<br />

4 Justices <strong>of</strong> the peace and constables in townships having a popu-<br />

5 lation <strong>of</strong> under twelve thousand shall pay into the county treasury all<br />

6 fees collected each year in excess <strong>of</strong> the following sums :<br />

7 1. In townships having a population <strong>of</strong> four thousand and under<br />

8 twelve thousand, justices, eight hundred dollars; constables, six hun-<br />

9 dred dollars.<br />

10 2. In all townships having a population <strong>of</strong> under four thousand,<br />

11 justices, six hundred dollars ; constables, five hundred dollars.<br />

12 In townships having a population <strong>of</strong> ten thousand or more, jus-<br />

13 tices <strong>of</strong> the peace and constables shall receive in full compensation for<br />

14 their services performed in criminal cases during the year, the follow-<br />

15 ing sums which shall be paid quarterly out <strong>of</strong> the county treasury.<br />

16 1. In townships having a population <strong>of</strong> forty thousand or more,<br />

17 justices, eighteen hundred dollars; constables, fifteen hundred dollars.<br />

18 2. In townships having a population <strong>of</strong> twenty-eight thousand or<br />

19 more, justices, fifteen hundred dollars ; constables, twelve hundred dol-<br />

20 lars.<br />

21 3. In townships having a populaton <strong>of</strong> twenty thousand and under<br />

22 twenty-eight thousand, justices, twelve hundred dollars; constables,<br />

23 one thousand dollars.<br />

24 4. In townships having a population <strong>of</strong> ten thousand and under<br />

25 twenty thousand, justices, one thousand dollars ; constables, eight hun-<br />

26 dred dollars.<br />

27 Justices and constables in all townships having a population <strong>of</strong><br />

28 ten thousand and over shall retain such civil fees as may be allowed by<br />

29 the board <strong>of</strong> supervisors, not to exceed five hundred dollars per annum.
