CHAPTER 5.<br />

BANKS AND TRUST COMPANIES AS FIDUCIARIES.<br />

SECTION 5833-al. Investments in federal reserve and farm loan<br />

bank stock.<br />

<strong>State</strong> banks and trust companies are hereby authorized, subject<br />

to the approval <strong>of</strong> the superintendent <strong>of</strong> banking, to invest an amount<br />

not exceeding ten per cent <strong>of</strong> their capital stock and surplus in the<br />

capital stock <strong>of</strong> corporations chartered or incorporated under the provisions<br />

<strong>of</strong> section twenty-five-a <strong>of</strong> the federal reserve act, approved<br />

December twenty-fourth, nineteen hundred nineteen, and a like amount<br />

in the capital stock <strong>of</strong> corporations organized under the laws <strong>of</strong> this<br />

state for the purpose <strong>of</strong> extending credit to those engaged in agriculture<br />

and to agricultural organizations ; provided that the said investments<br />

by state banks and trust companies shall in no event exceed<br />

in the aggregate twenty per cent <strong>of</strong> the capital stock and surplus <strong>of</strong><br />

said state bank or trust company.<br />
