9 illustrations, headings, titles, paper, cover, binding and other similar<br />

10 details. The authority here given to edit, revise, condense and elim-<br />

11 inate portions <strong>of</strong> manuscript shall apply notwithstanding any pro-<br />

12 visions elsewhere. Where tables or other matters are once printed<br />

13 it shall be sufficient thereafter to refer to the same without repeating<br />

14 them.<br />

SEC. 241-a40. Cooperation with department heads.<br />

1 It shall be the duty <strong>of</strong> the said superintendent to advise with the<br />

2 <strong>of</strong>ficials and heads <strong>of</strong> departments as to the preparation <strong>of</strong> manuscript<br />

3 or copy for any printed matter, so the same may be handled in the<br />

4 most economical manner in the editing and printing. Officials or<br />

5 employees shall conform so far as practicable to all regulations <strong>of</strong> the<br />

6 superintendent for the improvement <strong>of</strong> the reports or other publica-<br />

7 tions, or for decreasing the expense <strong>of</strong> preparation, printing or dis-<br />

8 tribution.<br />

SEC. 241-a41. Appeals to board.<br />

1 In case <strong>of</strong> a disagreement between the superintendent and the<br />

2 head <strong>of</strong> any department as to the editing <strong>of</strong> manuscript, an appeal<br />

3 may be taken to the printing board which shall have authority to<br />

.4 determine the matter in controversy.<br />

SEC. 241-a42. Record relative to documents.<br />

1 The superintendent shall keep a record <strong>of</strong> the number <strong>of</strong> each<br />

2 report or document ordered printed, the number received and the num-<br />

3 ber and manner <strong>of</strong> distribution.<br />

SEC. 241-a43. Reserve supply <strong>of</strong> documents.<br />

1 The superintendent shall designate, subject to the approval <strong>of</strong> the<br />

2 printing board, the number <strong>of</strong> copies <strong>of</strong> reports and publications to<br />

3 be held in reserve, and copies thus held in reserve shall be distributed<br />

4 only upon the written requesï <strong>of</strong> the head <strong>of</strong> the department, approved<br />

5 by the superintendent, and ordered by the printing board.<br />

SEC. 241-a44. Condemnation <strong>of</strong> unused documents.<br />

1 The superintendent shall from time to time make report to the<br />

2 printing board <strong>of</strong> any documents in his custody deemed not needed<br />

3 and which have been printed five years or more, and if such report<br />

4 has the written approval <strong>of</strong> the head <strong>of</strong> the department from which the<br />

5 documents were issued, the printing board may condemn and order<br />

6 such documents sold, and the proceeds turned into the unappropriated<br />

7 funds <strong>of</strong> the state.<br />
