34 4. Fire fund. A tax not exceeding five mills on the dollar for<br />

35 the purpose <strong>of</strong> creating a city fire fund, to be used for paying the ex-<br />

36 penses <strong>of</strong> organizing, keeping and maintaining a fire department, in-<br />

37 eluding the expenses <strong>of</strong> constructing, purchasing, leasing and main-<br />

38 taining the proper and necessary buildings, grounds and apparatus<br />

39 therefor; provided that where a paid fire department is maintained,<br />

40 all money derived from the sale <strong>of</strong> any buildings, grounds or apparatus<br />

41 <strong>of</strong> such fire department which was originally paid for out <strong>of</strong> the fire<br />

42 fund, shall belong to said fire fund.<br />

43 5. Road fund. When any city is divided into road districts, a<br />

44 tax not exceeding two mills on the dollar on all taxable property in<br />

45 such road district, to be known as the district road fund, and to be<br />

46 used only to pay the cost <strong>of</strong> cleaning, sprinkling and repairing the<br />

47 streets and public places in such district.<br />

48 6. Library tax. , In cities which have established, or may estab-<br />

49 lish, a free public library, a tax as provided in section thirty-seven<br />

50 hundred fifty-eight <strong>of</strong> this supplement.<br />

51 7. Tax for water and gas works and electric plants. A tax not<br />

52 exceeding five mills on the dollar, which, with the rates, rents or reve-<br />

53 nues derived therefrom, shall be sufficient to pay the expenses <strong>of</strong> run-<br />

54 ning, operating and repairing, water and gas works, electric light and<br />

55 power plants, owned and operated by such city, and the interest on or<br />

56 principal <strong>of</strong> any bonds issued to pay the cost <strong>of</strong> the construction <strong>of</strong><br />

57 such works ; but such taxes shall not be levied upon the property which<br />

58 lies wholly without the limits <strong>of</strong> the benefits or protection <strong>of</strong> such<br />

59 works or plants, which limit shall be fixed by the council each year<br />

60 before making the levy.<br />

61 8. Tax for water, gas and electric light or power. A tax, not<br />

62 exceeding five mills on the dollar for the purpose <strong>of</strong> paying the amount<br />

63 due, or to become due, to any individual or company operating water<br />

64 or gas works or electric light power plants, for water, light, gas or<br />

65 power supplied to the city, the levy to be limited to the property bene-<br />

66 fited thereby.<br />

67 9. Bond fund. A tax for the purpose <strong>of</strong> creating a bond fund<br />

68 sufficient to pay the interest, to accrue before the next annual levy,<br />

69 on funding or refunding bonds outstanding, and to pay the principal<br />

70 <strong>of</strong> such funding or refunding bonds. In case <strong>of</strong> such bonds, the levy<br />

71 shall be so made that, dividing the principal into as many parts as the<br />

72 bonds have years to run, not less than one such part shall be levied<br />

73 each year, and shall be made so that the fund derived therefrom shall<br />

74 be available and sufficient to pay the bonds at their maturity.<br />

75 10. Water and gas or electric light and power bonds. A tax to<br />

76 be used exclusively in payment <strong>of</strong> the principal and interest <strong>of</strong> bonds<br />

77 issued for the construction <strong>of</strong> water and gas works, electric light and<br />

78 power plants, and which shall be levied in the manner provided in<br />

79 the preceding subdivision.<br />

80 11. Park tax. A tax not exceeding two mills on the dollar, as<br />

81 authorized by the vote <strong>of</strong> the electors, to purchase, improve and main-<br />

82 tain public parks in such city.<br />

83 12. Special bridge tax. A special tax to aid in the construction<br />

84 <strong>of</strong> bridges, when such tax has been voted by the electors <strong>of</strong> the city<br />

85 under the provisions <strong>of</strong> section thirty-seven hundred eighty-seven <strong>of</strong><br />

86 the compiled code.
