SEC. 3750-a5. Vacancy by reason <strong>of</strong> removal or absence.<br />

1 The removal <strong>of</strong> any trustee permanently from the city, or his<br />

2 absence from six consecutive regular meetings <strong>of</strong> the board, except in<br />

3 case <strong>of</strong> sickness or temporary absence from the city, without due ex-<br />

4 planation <strong>of</strong> absence shall render his <strong>of</strong>fice as trustee vacant.<br />

SEC. 3750-a6. Compensation.<br />

1 • Members <strong>of</strong> said board shall receive no compensation for their<br />

2 services.<br />

SEC. 3750-a7. Joint libraries—expenditure permitted.<br />

1 In cities and incorporated towns where a college or university is<br />

2 located it shall be lawful for the city or town and such institution <strong>of</strong><br />

3 learning to jointly establish and maintain a public library for their<br />

4 mutual benefit upon such terms and conditions as regards mainte-<br />

5 nance, control, appointment <strong>of</strong> library trustees, and other incidents <strong>of</strong><br />

6 joint control as may in any lawful manner be mutually agreed upon<br />

7 between them ; but no city or town may undertake to contribute toward<br />

8 the maintenance more than the amount produced by a rate <strong>of</strong> taxation<br />

9 therefor allowed by law, and no person shall be appointed or confirmed<br />

10 as library trustee other than such having the qualifications required<br />

11 by law.<br />

SEC. 3752. Power to contract for use <strong>of</strong> books.<br />

1 The board <strong>of</strong> library trustees <strong>of</strong> any free public library shall have<br />

2 power to contract with any school corporation, the township trustees<br />

3 <strong>of</strong> any civil township, the board <strong>of</strong> supervisors <strong>of</strong> the county in which<br />

4 said library is situated, and the council <strong>of</strong> any city or town, whether<br />

5 such school corporation, civil township, or city or town be in the same<br />

6 county in which such library is situated or in an adjoining county, for<br />

7 the free use <strong>of</strong> said library by the residents <strong>of</strong> such school corporation,<br />

8 civil township, county, city or town, by one or more <strong>of</strong> the following<br />

9 methods in whole or in part :<br />

10 1. By lending the books <strong>of</strong> such library to such residents on the<br />

11 same terms and conditions as to residents <strong>of</strong> the city or town in which<br />

12 said library is situated.<br />

13 2. By the establishment <strong>of</strong> depositories <strong>of</strong> books <strong>of</strong> such library to<br />

14 be loaned to such residents at stated times and places.<br />

15 3. By the transportation <strong>of</strong> books <strong>of</strong> such library by wagon or<br />

16 other conveyance for lending the same to such residents at stated times<br />

17 and places.<br />

18 4. By the establishment <strong>of</strong> branch libraries for lending books to<br />

19 such residents.<br />

20 Such contracts shall provide for the rate <strong>of</strong> tax to be levied dur-<br />

21 ing the period <strong>of</strong> the contract, and such contracts shall remain in force<br />

22 until terminated by a majority vote <strong>of</strong> the electors <strong>of</strong> such school cor-<br />

23 poration, civil township, county, city, or town.<br />
