SEC. 3750-a5. Vacancy by reason of removal or absence.
1 The removal of any trustee permanently from the city, or his
2 absence from six consecutive regular meetings of the board, except in
3 case of sickness or temporary absence from the city, without due ex-
4 planation of absence shall render his office as trustee vacant.

SEC. 3750-a6. Compensation.
1 • Members of said board shall receive no compensation for their
2 services.

SEC. 3750-a7. Joint libraries—expenditure permitted.
1 In cities and incorporated towns where a college or university is
2 located it shall be lawful for the city or town and such institution of
3 learning to jointly establish and maintain a public library for their
4 mutual benefit upon such terms and conditions as regards mainte-
5 nance, control, appointment of library trustees, and other incidents of
6 joint control as may in any lawful manner be mutually agreed upon
7 between them ; but no city or town may undertake to contribute toward
8 the maintenance more than the amount produced by a rate of taxation
9 therefor allowed by law, and no person shall be appointed or confirmed
10 as library trustee other than such having the qualifications required
11 by law.

SEC. 3752. Power to contract for use of books.
1 The board of library trustees of any free public library shall have
2 power to contract with any school corporation, the township trustees
3 of any civil township, the board of supervisors of the county in which
4 said library is situated, and the council of any city or town, whether
5 such school corporation, civil township, or city or town be in the same
6 county in which such library is situated or in an adjoining county, for
7 the free use of said library by the residents of such school corporation,
8 civil township, county, city or town, by one or more of the following
9 methods in whole or in part :
10 1. By lending the books of such library to such residents on the
11 same terms and conditions as to residents of the city or town in which
12 said library is situated.
13 2. By the establishment of depositories of books of such library to
14 be loaned to such residents at stated times and places.
15 3. By the transportation of books of such library by wagon or
16 other conveyance for lending the same to such residents at stated times
17 and places.
18 4. By the establishment of branch libraries for lending books to
19 such residents.
20 Such contracts shall provide for the rate of tax to be levied dur-
21 ing the period of the contract, and such contracts shall remain in force
22 until terminated by a majority vote of the electors of such school cor-
23 poration, civil township, county, city, or town.
