SHERIFF. § 3209.<br />

14 deputies and clerks are needed, the board <strong>of</strong> supervisors may make<br />

15 such allowance therefor as they deem reasonable. In counties having<br />

16 a population <strong>of</strong> fifty thousand or over the salary <strong>of</strong> the first deputy<br />

17 shall be not less than fifty per cent <strong>of</strong> that <strong>of</strong> his principal nor more<br />

18 than seventeen hundred fifty dollars per year, to be fixed by the board<br />

19 <strong>of</strong> supervisors, and the salary <strong>of</strong> the second deputy shall be not less<br />

20 than fifty per cent <strong>of</strong> that <strong>of</strong> his principal nor more than fifteen hun-<br />

21 dred dollars per year, and the salary <strong>of</strong> the third deputy shall be not<br />

22 more than fifty per cent <strong>of</strong> that <strong>of</strong> his principal, to be fixed by the<br />

23 board <strong>of</strong> supervisors. In counties having within their limits a city <strong>of</strong><br />

24 forty-five thousand or over the salary <strong>of</strong> the first and second deputy<br />

25 shall be sixty-five per cent <strong>of</strong> that <strong>of</strong> the principal, and the salary <strong>of</strong><br />

26 the third and fourth deputy shall be fifty per cent <strong>of</strong> that <strong>of</strong> the prin-<br />

27 cipal, and in case additional deputies and clerks are needed the salary<br />

28 <strong>of</strong> such additional deputies and clerks shall be fixed by the board <strong>of</strong><br />

29 supervisors.<br />

30 The increases <strong>of</strong> salary granted by the provisions <strong>of</strong> chapter two<br />

31 hundred seventy-eight, acts <strong>of</strong> the thirty-eighth general assembly be<br />

32 and continue in full force and effect until the first day <strong>of</strong> June, nineteen<br />

33 hundred twenty-three.<br />

SHERIFF.<br />

SECTION 3209. Compensation.<br />

1 Each county sheriff shall receive for his services the following<br />

2 compensation: In counties having a population <strong>of</strong> less than fifteen<br />

3 thousand, seventeen hundred dollars ; in counties having a population<br />

4 <strong>of</strong> fifteen thousand and less than twenty thousand, eighteen hundred<br />

5 dollars ; in counties having a population <strong>of</strong> twenty thousand and less<br />

6 than twenty-five thousand, nineteen hundred dollars ; in counties hav-<br />

7 ing a population <strong>of</strong> twenty-five thousand and less than thirty-five<br />

8 thousand, two thousand dollars; in counties having a population <strong>of</strong><br />

9 thirty-five thousand and less than forty thousand, twenty-one hun-<br />

10 dred dollars; in counties having a population <strong>of</strong> forty thousand and<br />

11 less than fifty thousand, twenty-two hundred dollars ; in counties hav-<br />

12 ing a population <strong>of</strong> fifty thousand and less than sixty thousand, twenty-<br />

13 four hundred dollars; in counties having a population <strong>of</strong> sixty thou-<br />

14 sand and less than sixty^five thousand, twenty-six hundred dollars;<br />

15 in counties having a population <strong>of</strong> sixty-five thousand and over,<br />

16 twenty-eight hundred dollars. All fees collected, except mileage, shall<br />

17 be.paid to the clerk <strong>of</strong> the district court for the use <strong>of</strong> the county and<br />

18 all fees earned, except mileage, and uncollected at the end <strong>of</strong> each<br />

19 year shall belong to the county and when paid shall be reported to the<br />

20 board <strong>of</strong> supervisors by the clerk <strong>of</strong> the district court and paid into<br />

21 the county treasury. In counties where the sheriff is not furnished
