§ 3130. POWERS AND DUTIES OP SUPERVISORS. Tit. XII, Ch. 2.<br />

73 to lay out, alter or discontinue any highway extending through their<br />

74 own and one or more other counties, subject to the ratification <strong>of</strong> the<br />

75 board.<br />

76 14. To fix the compensation <strong>of</strong> all services <strong>of</strong> county and town-<br />

77 ship <strong>of</strong>ficers not otherwise provided for by law, and to provide for<br />

78 the payment <strong>of</strong> the same.<br />

79 15. To authorize the taking <strong>of</strong> a vote <strong>of</strong> the people for the re-<br />

80 location <strong>of</strong> the county seat, as provided by law.<br />

81 16. To alter, vacate or discontinue any state or territorial high-<br />

82 way within their respective counties.<br />

83 17. To lay out, establish, alter or discontinue any county high-<br />

84 way heret<strong>of</strong>ore laid out, or hereafter to be laid through or within the<br />

85 county, as may be provided by law.<br />

86 18. To provide for the erection <strong>of</strong> all bridges which may be nec-<br />

87 essary, and which the public convenience may require, within their<br />

88 respective counties, and to keep the same in repair, except as is other-<br />

89 wise provided by law.<br />

90 19. To determine what bounties, in addition to those already pro-<br />

91 vided by law, if any, shall be <strong>of</strong>fered and paid by the county on the<br />

92 scalps <strong>of</strong> such wild animals taken and killed within the county as it<br />

93 may deem it expedient to exterminate, butjio such bounty shall ex-<br />

94 ceed five dollars.<br />

95 20. To purchase for the use <strong>of</strong> the county any real estate neces-<br />

96 sary for the erection <strong>of</strong> buildings for the support <strong>of</strong> the poor <strong>of</strong> the<br />

97 county, and for a farm to be used in connection therewith ; to remove<br />

98 the site <strong>of</strong> and designate a new site for the erection <strong>of</strong> any building<br />

99 or buildings for the care and support <strong>of</strong> the poor, and in case <strong>of</strong> such<br />

100 removal or change <strong>of</strong> site or purchase <strong>of</strong> real estate for buildings and<br />

101 a place to be kept and used for the care and support <strong>of</strong> the poor, to<br />

102 sell any interest that the county may have in the real estate and im-<br />

103 provements thereon which were theret<strong>of</strong>ore used and occupied for<br />

104 that purpose, and make appropriations not exceeding three hundred<br />

105 dollars in any one year for the growing <strong>of</strong> experimental crops thereon<br />

106 under the direction <strong>of</strong> the board.<br />

107 21. To have and exercise all the powers in relation to the poor<br />

108 given by law to the county authorities.<br />

109 22. To make such rules and regulations, not inconsistent with<br />

110 law, as it may deem necessary for its own government, the transac-<br />

111 tion <strong>of</strong> business, and the preservation <strong>of</strong> order.<br />

112 23. To purchase real estate for county fairs, the title <strong>of</strong> such<br />

113 real estate to be in the name <strong>of</strong> the county.<br />

114 24. To employ a competent person who shall perform all <strong>of</strong> the<br />

115 duties now belonging to the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> county surveyor, and who may<br />

116 be employed by them for the purpose <strong>of</strong> making general specifica-<br />

117 tions for the grading, repairing and building <strong>of</strong> roads, bridges and<br />

118 culverts, and to perform such other duties as the board <strong>of</strong> super-<br />

119 visors may determine.<br />

120 25. To contract with any free public library in the county for<br />

121 the free use <strong>of</strong> the books there<strong>of</strong> by the residents <strong>of</strong> the county out-<br />

122 side <strong>of</strong> the cities and towns therein, as provided in section thirty-<br />

123 seven hundred fifty-two <strong>of</strong> this supplement, which contract when<br />

124 made shall supersede all contracts made by townships or school cor-<br />

125 porations, and to levy annually on the taxable property <strong>of</strong> the county
