§§ 3046-3048. MOTOR VEHICLES. Tit. XI, Ch. 17.<br />

114 "Imported motor vehicle" shall mean any motor vehicle which<br />

115 shall be brought into this state from another country or state other-<br />

116 wise than in the ordinary course <strong>of</strong> business by or through a manu-<br />

117 facturer, dealer or used car dealer and which has not been registered<br />

118 in this state.<br />

SEC. 3046. When license required.<br />

1 Every motor vehicle kept in this state and whose owner is a resi-<br />

2 dent <strong>of</strong> this state, and every motor vehicle kept in this state, except<br />

3 temporarily by a nonresident owner and every motor vehicle kept and<br />

4 used in this state a majority <strong>of</strong> the time, and every motor vehicle used<br />

5 in this state and not properly licensed under the laws <strong>of</strong> another state<br />

6 shall not be operated by its own power upon any public highway with-<br />

7 out being licensed and without carrying license number plates and<br />

8 proper license certificate and without having had its license fee duly<br />

9 paid, all as required by law.<br />

10 Any such motor vehicle once licensed in the state and by removal<br />

11 not longer subject to license in this state, shall upon being returned<br />

12 to this state and subject to license be again originally licensed.<br />

13 Every motor vehicle originally licensed as provided by law shall,<br />

14 so long as it is subject to license, within the state, pay a license fee in<br />

15 advance as herein further provided.<br />

SEC. 3048. Registration by county treasurer—plates—trailers.<br />

1 Upon receipt <strong>of</strong> the application and license fee for a motor<br />

2 vehicle, as provided in this chapter, the county treasurer shall file<br />

3 such application in his <strong>of</strong>fice and register such motor vehicle with<br />

4 the name, post<strong>of</strong>fice address and business address <strong>of</strong> the owner,<br />

5 together with the facts stated in such application, in a book or index<br />

6 to be kept for the purpose, under the distinctive number assigned to<br />

7 such motor vehicle by the county treasurer, which book or index shall<br />

8 be open to public inspection during reasonable business hours, and he<br />

9 shall give to the owner a receipt for the fee paid, and shall forthwith<br />

10 assign to such motor vehicle a distinctive number, and, without<br />

11 expense to the applicant, shall issue and deliver, or forward by mail<br />

12 or express to the owner, a certificate <strong>of</strong> registration and container for<br />

13 same in such form as the department may prescribe, and duplicate<br />

14 number plates bearing a number corresponding to the number assigned<br />

15 to such motor vehicle.<br />

16 Upon receipt <strong>of</strong> the application and license fee for a trailer, as<br />

17 provided in this chapter, the county treasurer shall issue a receipt for<br />

18 the fee paid and shall at once forward the duplicate receipt to the<br />

19 department. The county treasurer shall register and assign to the<br />

20 trailer a distinctive number and shall forward to the owner a certifi-<br />

21 cate <strong>of</strong> registration and a single number plate bearing the number cor-<br />

22 responding to the number assigned to the trailer. In the event <strong>of</strong> the<br />

23 loss, mutilation or destruction <strong>of</strong> any number plate, the owner <strong>of</strong> the<br />

24 registered motor vehicle, or manufacturer, or dealer, as the case may<br />

25 be, may obtain from the department a duplicate there<strong>of</strong> upon filing<br />

26 in the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> the department an affidavit showing such facts and
