§ 3045. MOTOR VEHICLES. Tit. XI, Ch. 17.
7 The term "local authorities" shall include all officers of counties,
8 cities or towns, as well as all boards, committees, or other public offi-
9 cials of such counties, cities or towns.
10 "Motorcycle" shall include all motor vehicles designed to travel
11 on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, and of not
12 exceeding ten horsepower, and of not exceeding the weight of five
13 hundred pounds unladen.
14 A "trailer" shall be deemed to be any vehicle, which is at any
15 time drawn upon the public highway by a motor vehicle excepting
16 any implements of husbandry temporarily drawn, propelled or moved
17 upon such highway.
18 "Highway" shall include any public highway, county road, state
19 highway or state road, public street, avenue, alley, park, parkway,
20 driveway, square or place, bridge, viaduct, trestle, or any other terri-
21 tory or structure, whether public or private, designed, intended or used
22 by or for the general public for the passage of vehicles, in any county,
23 or incorporated city or town within the state of Iowa.
24 "Local authorities" shall include all boards of supervisors, trus-
25 tees or councils, commissions, committees, and other public officials
26 of counties, incorporated cities or towns.
27 "Chauffeur" shall mean any person who operates an automobile
28 in the transportation of persons or freight and who receives any com-
29 pensation for such service in wages, commission or otherwise, paid
30 directly or indirectly, or who as owner or employee operates an auto-
31 mobile carrying passengers or freight for hire, including drivers of
32 hearses, ambulances, consolidated school busses, passenger cars,
33 trucks, light delivery and similar conveyances; provided, however,
34 that this definition shall not include manufacturers' agents, proprie-
35 tors of garages and dealers, salesmen, mechanics, or demonstrators
36 of automobiles in the ordinary course of their business.
37 The word or term "chauffeur" as defined by the laws of this state
38 shall not apply to employees engaged in operating motor trucks for
39 persons, firms or corporations engaged in agricultural enterprises.
40 "Nonresidents" shall mean residents of states other than the state
41 of Iowa and of countries other than the United States whose sojourn
42 in this state, or whose occupation or their regular place of abode or
43 business in this state, if any, covers a total period of less than three
44 months in the calendar year.
45 "Owner" shall include any person, firm, association, or corpora-
46 tion, having the lawful ownership, use or control, or the right to the
47 use or control, of a motor vehicle, under a lease or otherwise, for a
48 period of ten or more successive days.
49 The term "where a vehicle is kept" shall refer to the county of
50 residence of the owner or to the county where the vehicle is mainly
51 kept if it be different from that of the residence of the owner.
52 The words "license fee" shall have the same meaning as "regis-
53 tration fee" and when a motor vehicle is "licensed" it is also "regis-
54 tered" and vice versa.
55 A "dealer" shall include dealers and manufacturers.
56 "Manufacturer" or "dealer" shall signify a person, firm, associa-
57 tion, or corporation regularly in the business of having in his, its or
58 their possession motor vehicles for sale or trade and for use and oper-
59 ation pursuant thereto, and shall be considered owners of motor
60 vehicles manufactured or dealt in by them for the purposes of this
