15 A majority <strong>of</strong> the judges <strong>of</strong> the supreme court may, if they deem<br />

16 it advisable, make the state its own publisher <strong>of</strong> the reports, causing<br />

17 the same to be printed and bound in the same manner and for the<br />

18 same compensation as is provided by law for other state printing and<br />

19 binding and, in event the state becomes its own publisher, such reports<br />

20 shall be sold and distributed through the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> the secretary <strong>of</strong> state.<br />

SEC. 173-al. Code annotations — preparation — continuation —<br />

printing—distribution.<br />

1 The supreme court reporter as code editor shall edit and prepare<br />

2 for publication a book <strong>of</strong> annotations <strong>of</strong> the code to be printed in a<br />

3 separate volume arranged in the same way as to divisions, titles, chap-<br />

4 ters, and sections, as the edited code, containing the annotations <strong>of</strong> all<br />

5 statutes construed by the supreme court <strong>of</strong> <strong>Iowa</strong>, and the federal<br />

6 courts, which book <strong>of</strong> annotations shall continue to be edited by the<br />

7 code editor up to date from time to time and printed, sold and dis-<br />

8 tributed in the same manner as the code. Said first book <strong>of</strong> annota-<br />

9 tions shall be completed on or before January first, nineteen hundred<br />

10 twerlty, unless the supreme court shall further extend the time for<br />

11 good cause.<br />

SEC. 173-a2. Time for preparation—assistance to editor.<br />

1 The time for preparing the book <strong>of</strong> annotations for the new code,<br />

2 as provided in the preceding section, is hereby extended until such<br />

3 time as the general assembly may complete its consideration <strong>of</strong> code<br />

4 revision and the final arrangement and section numbers <strong>of</strong> the new<br />

5 code have been determined so that the annotations may be published<br />

6 in accordance therewith. The code editor is authorized to employ<br />

7 necessary help to complete the preparation <strong>of</strong> the annotations and<br />

8 have the same ready for publication within the time provided in the<br />

9 next section, and payment for the same shall be made under the pro-<br />

10 visions and in the manner provided in section one nundred seventy-<br />

11 three-a five <strong>of</strong> this supplement.<br />

SEC. 173-a3. Arrangement — publication — extension <strong>of</strong> time —<br />

copyright.<br />

1 The annotations authorized by the second preceding section shall<br />

2 be published under the title, chapter, and section numbers <strong>of</strong> the new<br />

3 code and immediately after the new code has been published, unless<br />

4 the supreme court for good cause shall further extend the time for<br />

5 preparation and publication. At the time <strong>of</strong> publication the code edi-<br />

6 tor shall copyright said book <strong>of</strong> annotations in the name <strong>of</strong> the state.<br />
