SEC. 25S4-a27. Transportation by parent—instruction in another<br />

school.<br />

1 The school board may require that children living an unreasonable<br />

2 distance from school shall be transported by the parent or guardian a<br />

3 distance <strong>of</strong> not more than two miles to connect with any vehicle <strong>of</strong><br />

4 transportation to and from school or may contract with an adjoining<br />

5 school corporation for the instruction <strong>of</strong> any child living an unreason-<br />

6 able distance from school. It shall allow a reasonable compensation<br />

7 for the transportation <strong>of</strong> children to and from their homes to connect<br />

8 with such vehicle <strong>of</strong> transportation, or for transporting them to an<br />

9 adjoining district. In determining what an unreasonable distance<br />

10 would be, consideration shall be given to the number and age <strong>of</strong> the<br />

11 children, the condition <strong>of</strong> the roads, and the number <strong>of</strong> miles to be<br />

12 traveled in going to and from school.<br />

SEC. 2524-a28. Contracts in re transportation—rules.<br />

1 The school board <strong>of</strong> any school corporation maintaining a central<br />

2 school shall contract with as many suitable persons as it deems neces-<br />

3 sary for the transportation <strong>of</strong> children <strong>of</strong> school age to and from school.<br />

4 Such contract shall be in writing and shall state the route, the length<br />

5 <strong>of</strong> time contracted for, the compensation to be allowed per week <strong>of</strong> five<br />

6 school days, or per month <strong>of</strong> four school weeks, and may provide that<br />

7 two weeks' salary shall be retained by the board pending full com-<br />

8 pliance therewith by the party contracted with, and shall always pro-<br />

9 vide that any party or parties to said contract, and every person in<br />

10 charge <strong>of</strong> vehicles conveying children to and from school, shall be at<br />

11 all times subject to any rules said board shall adopt for the protection<br />

12 <strong>of</strong> the children, or to govern the conduct <strong>of</strong> the person in charge <strong>of</strong><br />

13 said conveyances.<br />

SEC. 2524-a29. Violation <strong>of</strong> rules in re transportation. .<br />

1 Any person driving, managing, or in charge <strong>of</strong> any vehicle used<br />

2 in transporting children to and from school, who shall be found guilty<br />

3 <strong>of</strong> violating any <strong>of</strong> the rules adopted by the board <strong>of</strong> said school for<br />

4 the guidance <strong>of</strong> such person shall be guilty <strong>of</strong> a misdemeanor, and for<br />

5 the first <strong>of</strong>fense shall be fined not less than five dollars nor more than<br />

6 ten dollars and for a subsequent <strong>of</strong>fense shall be fined not less than<br />

7 twenty-five dollars nor more than fifty dollars and shall be dismissed<br />

8 from the service.<br />

SEC. 2524-a30. Dissolution <strong>of</strong> corporation—petition.<br />

1 A school corporation organized for the purpose <strong>of</strong> maintaining a<br />

2 central school may be dissolved by following the same procedure as in<br />

3 the organization, so far as practicable. A petition describing the<br />

4 boundaries <strong>of</strong> the districts, <strong>of</strong> which none shall be less than four gov-<br />

5 ernment sections <strong>of</strong> land, into which it is proposed to divide the school<br />

6 corporation, and signed by a majority <strong>of</strong> the qualified voters residing<br />
