SEC. 2369. Accompanying patients to hospital—payment—sworn<br />

statement.<br />

1 The court may, in his discretion, appoint some person to accom-<br />

2 pany said committed public patient or said voluntary public patient or<br />

3 said committed private patient from the place where he may be to<br />

4 the state psychopathic hospital <strong>of</strong> the state university at <strong>Iowa</strong> City,<br />

5 or to accompany such patient from the said hospital to such place as<br />

6 may be designated by the court.<br />

7 Any person appointed by the court or judge to accompany said<br />

8 person to or from the hospital or to make an investigation and report<br />

9 on any question involved in the complaint, other than the physician<br />

10 making the examination, shall receive the sum <strong>of</strong> three dollars per<br />

11 day for the time actually spent in making such investigation (except<br />

12 in cases where the person appointed therefor receives a fixed salary<br />

13 or compensation) and his actual necessary expenses incurred in mak-<br />

14 ing such investigation or trip.<br />

15 The physician appointed to make the examination and report shall<br />

16 receive the sum <strong>of</strong> five dollars for each and every examination and<br />

17 report so made, and his actual necessary expenses incurred in making<br />

18 such investigation, in conformity with the requirements <strong>of</strong> this<br />

19 chapter.<br />

20 The person making claim to such compensation shall present to<br />

21 the court or judge an itemized sworn statement there<strong>of</strong>, and when<br />

22 such claim for compensation has been approved by the court or judge,<br />

23 the same shall be filed in the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> the county auditor and shall be<br />

24 allowed by the board <strong>of</strong> supervisors and paid out <strong>of</strong> the funds <strong>of</strong> the<br />

25 county collected for the relief <strong>of</strong> the poor. If the patient be a female,<br />

26 the person appointed to accompany her must be a woman.<br />

SEC. 3370-al. Commitment <strong>of</strong> private patient as public patient.<br />

1 If any patient be admitted to the state psychopathic hospital and<br />

2 thereafter an order <strong>of</strong> commitment <strong>of</strong> said patient as a public patient<br />

3 be made by the court or judge having jurisdiction there<strong>of</strong>, the expense<br />

4 <strong>of</strong> keeping and maintaining said patient from the date <strong>of</strong> the filing<br />

5 <strong>of</strong> the information upon which said order is made shall be paid by<br />

6 the state.<br />

SEC. 2372. Discharge—transfer.<br />

1 The medical director <strong>of</strong> the state psychopathic hospital may, at<br />

2 any time, discharge any patient as recovered, as improved, or as not<br />

3 likely to be benefited by further treatment, and upon said discharge<br />

4 said director shall notify the committing judge or court there<strong>of</strong>; and<br />

5 the said court or judge shall appoint some person to accompany said<br />

6 discharged patient from the said state psychopathic hospital to such<br />

7 place as he may designate, or authorize the said medical director to<br />

8 appoint such attendant.<br />

SEC. 2372-al. Death <strong>of</strong> patient—disposal <strong>of</strong> body—expense.<br />

1 In the event that a committed public patient or a voluntary public<br />

2 patient or a committed private patient should die while at the state
