SEC. 2245. Appropriation.
1 There is hereby appropriated from any funds in the state treas-
2 ury not otherwise appropriated sufficient thereof to pay the expendi-
3 tures herein authorized.

SEC. 2247-al. Violation of parole—penalty.
1 Whoever, while on parole, shall violate any condition of his parole,
2 or any rule or regulation of the board of parole, shall be deemed guilty
3 of a felony, and upon conviction of the same shall be punished by
4 imprisonment at hard labor in the reformatory or penitentiary from
5 which he had been paroled, for a term of not more than five years,
6 his sentence under such conviction to take effect upon the completion
7 of his previous sentence.

SEC. 2250-al. Men's parole relief fund.
1 There is hereby established a fund of one thousand dollars to be
2 known as the men's parole relief fund, to be kept by the treasurer of
3 state and subject to the warrants of the chairman and secretary of
4 the board of parole.

SEC. 2250-a2. Women's parole relief fund.
1 There also is established a fund of two hundred fifty dollars to
2 be known as the women's parole relief fund to be kept by the treas-
3 urer of state, and subject to the warrants of the chairman and secre-
4 tary of the board of control.

SEC. 2250-a3. Disbursement and reimbursement of fund.
1 Said funds may be used for the relief of paroled prisoners who,
2 because of illness, loss of employment or conditions creating personal
3 need, are in distress ; but in no instance shall the amount advanced or
4 so used exceed twenty-five dollars. In all cases the need of such
5 parolee shall first be determined by the board paroling such person,
6 and all advancements made shall be treated as loans, and an obligation
7 to repay the same during the parole period shall be given by said
8 parolee to the state of Iowa, which when paid shall be turned into the
9 parole relief fund from which such relief was granted.

SEC. 2254. Parole from bench—reports—pardon.
1 Whenever any person over the age of sixteen years shall be con-
2 victed of any crime against the laws of this state, excepting treason,
3 murder, rape, robbery and arson, if such conviction shall be the first
4 conviction of the defendant for a felony, the trial judge before whom
5 such conviction is had, and by whom the judgment of the court is pro-
6 nounced, shall have the power to suspend the execution of the sentence
7 of such person so convicted and place such person in custody and
8 under the care and guardianship of any suitable person a resident
9 and citizen of the state of Iowa, during good behavior of such person
