SEC. 1653-a4. Duty <strong>of</strong> assessors.<br />

1 The assessor shall require each person whose property is listed,<br />

2 to make answers to such inquiries as may be necessary to enable him<br />

3 to return the foregoing statistics carefully footed and summarized to<br />

4 the director <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Iowa</strong> weather and crop service on or before the fif-<br />

5 teenth day <strong>of</strong> April.<br />

SEC. 1653-a5. Duties <strong>of</strong> director.<br />

1 The director shall:<br />

2 1. Employ such assistants as shall be necessary efficiently to dis-<br />

3 charge the duties devolving upon him, and within the appropriation<br />

4 provided by this chapter.<br />

5 2. Cooperate with said board <strong>of</strong> agriculture in establishing volun-<br />

6 teer stations in one or more places in each county, and appoint observ-<br />

7 ers thereat.<br />

8 3. Supervise such stations, receive reports <strong>of</strong> meteorological<br />

9 events and crop conditions and tabulate the same for permanent record.<br />

10 4. Issue weekly weather and crop bulletins from April first to<br />

11 October first <strong>of</strong> each year.<br />

12 5. Edit and cause to be published monthly weather, crop and live-<br />

13 stock reports, containing meteorological and agricultural matter <strong>of</strong><br />

14 public interest.<br />

15 6. Make an annual report to the governor reviewing and sum-<br />

16 marizing the result <strong>of</strong> the service for the year. Said report may in-<br />

17 elude articles on meteorological science and climatology, and extracts<br />

18 from approved works thereon.<br />

19 7. Cooperate with farmers' institute organizations in providing<br />

20 speakers for them on agricultural and kindred topics.<br />

SEC. 1653-a6. Blanks.<br />

1 Monthly and annual reports, blank forms for assessors' reports<br />

2 and all other forms, circulars and stationery shall be printed and pro-<br />

3 vided by the state as in the case <strong>of</strong> general state printing.<br />

SEC. 1653-a7. Annual appropriation.<br />

1 There is hereby appropriated, out <strong>of</strong> any money in the state<br />

2 treasury not otherwise appropriated the sum <strong>of</strong> seventy-five hundred<br />

3 dollars annually, to be drawn and expended upon the order <strong>of</strong> the<br />

4 director, approved by the secretary <strong>of</strong> the department <strong>of</strong> agriculture,<br />

5 for the service provided in this chapter, including the salary <strong>of</strong> the<br />

6 director, which shall not exceed twenty-five hundred twenty dollars<br />

7 per annum.<br />
