COUNTY AND DISTRICT FAIRS. Tit. VIII, Ch. 2.<br />

12 The board <strong>of</strong> supervisors are further authorized to purchase real<br />

13 estate for county or district fair purposes, in sums exceeding one thou-<br />

14 sand dollars; provided, however, that the board <strong>of</strong> supervisors shall<br />

15 first have submitted to the legal voters <strong>of</strong> the county a proposition<br />

16 therefor, and voted for by a majority <strong>of</strong> all persons voting for and<br />

17 against such proposition at a general or special election ; notice to be<br />

18 given as provided in section thirty-two hundred forty-two <strong>of</strong> the com-<br />

19 piled code.<br />

20 The board <strong>of</strong> supervisors shall not exceed in the purchase <strong>of</strong> such<br />

21 real estate the amount so voted for ; the title <strong>of</strong> such real estate when<br />

22 purchased to be taken in the name <strong>of</strong> the county, and the board <strong>of</strong><br />

23 supervisors shall place such real estate under the control and manage-<br />

24 ment <strong>of</strong> an incorporated county or district fair society, as long as an<br />

25 annual county or district fair is maintained by such corporation on<br />

26 said real estate ; and said corporation is authorized to erect and main-<br />

27 tain buildings and make such other improvements on said real estate<br />

28 as is necessary, but the county shall not be liable for such improve-<br />

29 ments, or the expenditures therefor.<br />

30 The right <strong>of</strong> such county or district fair society to the control<br />

31 and management <strong>of</strong> said real estate may be terminated by the board<br />

32 <strong>of</strong> supervisors whenever well-conducted agricultural fairs are not an-<br />

33 nually held thereon.<br />

34 The board <strong>of</strong> supervisors <strong>of</strong> any county which has acquired real<br />

35 estate for county or district fair purposes and which has a county or<br />

36 district fair association using said real estate may levy a direct tax<br />

37 upon all <strong>of</strong> the property <strong>of</strong> the county not to exceed one-half mill;<br />

38 which money shall be expended only for the erection and repair <strong>of</strong><br />

39 buildings or other permanent improvements on the fair grounds or for<br />

40 the payment <strong>of</strong> debts contracted in the erection <strong>of</strong> such buildings or<br />

41 other permanent improvements.<br />
