23 He shall number consecutively the certificates <strong>of</strong> birth and death,<br />

24 in two separate series, beginning with number one for the first birth<br />

25 and the first death in each calendar year, and sign his name as regis-<br />

26 trar in attest <strong>of</strong> the date <strong>of</strong> filing in his <strong>of</strong>fice. He shall also make a<br />

27 complete and accurate copy <strong>of</strong> each birth and death certificate regis-<br />

28 tered by him in a record book supplied by the state registrar, to be<br />

29 preserved permanently in his <strong>of</strong>fice as the local record, in such manner<br />

30 as directed by the state registrar. •<br />

31 He shall, on the tenth day <strong>of</strong> each month, transmit to the state<br />

32 registrar all original certificates registered by him for the preceding<br />

33 month. If no births or no deaths occurred in any month, he shall on<br />

34 the tenth day <strong>of</strong> the following month, report that fact to the state<br />

35 registrar, on a card provided for such purpose.<br />

SEC. 1376-aSO. Fees—annual payment.<br />

1 Each local registrar shall be paid the sum <strong>of</strong> twenty-five cents for<br />

2 each birth certificate and each death certificate properly and completely<br />

3 made out and registered with him. and correctlv recorded and promptly<br />

4 returned by him to the state registrar, as required by this chapter. In<br />

5 case no births or no deaths were registered during any month, the<br />

6 local registrar shall be entitled to be paid the sum <strong>of</strong> twenty-five cents<br />

7 for each report to that effect, but only if such report be made promptly<br />

8 as required by this chapter. All amounts payable to a registrar under<br />

9 the provisions <strong>of</strong> this section shall be paid by the treasurer <strong>of</strong> the<br />

10 county in which the registration district is located, upon certification<br />

11 by the state registrar. The state registrar shall annually certify to<br />

12 the treasurers <strong>of</strong> the several counties the number <strong>of</strong> births and deaths<br />

13 properly registered, with the names <strong>of</strong> the local registrars and the<br />

14 amounts due each at the rates fixed herein.<br />

SEC. 1376-a21. Certified copy <strong>of</strong> record—prima facie presumption.<br />

1 The state registrar shall upon request supply to any applicant, for<br />

2 legal or other proper purposes, a certified copy <strong>of</strong> the record <strong>of</strong> any<br />

3 birth or death registered under the provisions <strong>of</strong> this chapter, for the<br />

4 making and certifying <strong>of</strong> which he shall be entitled to a fee <strong>of</strong> fifty<br />

5 cents, to be paid by the applicant. The United <strong>State</strong>s census bureau<br />

6 may obtain, without expense to the state, transcripts <strong>of</strong> certified copies<br />

7 <strong>of</strong> births and deaths without payment <strong>of</strong> the fees herein prescribed.<br />

8 Any such copy <strong>of</strong> the record <strong>of</strong> a birth or death when properly<br />

9 certified by the state registrar, shall be prima facie evidence in all<br />

10 courts and places <strong>of</strong> the facts therein stated.<br />

11 For any search <strong>of</strong> the files and records when no certified copy is<br />

12 made the state registrar shall be entitled to a fee <strong>of</strong> fifty cents for each<br />

13 hour or fractional part <strong>of</strong> an hour <strong>of</strong> time <strong>of</strong> search, said fee to be<br />

14 paid by the applicant.<br />

15 The state registrar shall keep a true and correct account <strong>of</strong> all<br />

16 fees by him received under these provisions, and turn the same over to<br />

17 the state treasurer each month. The state registrar shall, upon request<br />

18 <strong>of</strong> any parent or guardian, supply, without fee, a certificate limited to<br />

19 a statement as to the date <strong>of</strong> birth <strong>of</strong> any child when the same shall be
