23 He shall number consecutively the certificates of birth and death,
24 in two separate series, beginning with number one for the first birth
25 and the first death in each calendar year, and sign his name as regis-
26 trar in attest of the date of filing in his office. He shall also make a
27 complete and accurate copy of each birth and death certificate regis-
28 tered by him in a record book supplied by the state registrar, to be
29 preserved permanently in his office as the local record, in such manner
30 as directed by the state registrar. •
31 He shall, on the tenth day of each month, transmit to the state
32 registrar all original certificates registered by him for the preceding
33 month. If no births or no deaths occurred in any month, he shall on
34 the tenth day of the following month, report that fact to the state
35 registrar, on a card provided for such purpose.

SEC. 1376-aSO. Fees—annual payment.
1 Each local registrar shall be paid the sum of twenty-five cents for
2 each birth certificate and each death certificate properly and completely
3 made out and registered with him. and correctlv recorded and promptly
4 returned by him to the state registrar, as required by this chapter. In
5 case no births or no deaths were registered during any month, the
6 local registrar shall be entitled to be paid the sum of twenty-five cents
7 for each report to that effect, but only if such report be made promptly
8 as required by this chapter. All amounts payable to a registrar under
9 the provisions of this section shall be paid by the treasurer of the
10 county in which the registration district is located, upon certification
11 by the state registrar. The state registrar shall annually certify to
12 the treasurers of the several counties the number of births and deaths
13 properly registered, with the names of the local registrars and the
14 amounts due each at the rates fixed herein.

SEC. 1376-a21. Certified copy of record—prima facie presumption.
1 The state registrar shall upon request supply to any applicant, for
2 legal or other proper purposes, a certified copy of the record of any
3 birth or death registered under the provisions of this chapter, for the
4 making and certifying of which he shall be entitled to a fee of fifty
5 cents, to be paid by the applicant. The United States census bureau
6 may obtain, without expense to the state, transcripts of certified copies
7 of births and deaths without payment of the fees herein prescribed.
8 Any such copy of the record of a birth or death when properly
9 certified by the state registrar, shall be prima facie evidence in all
10 courts and places of the facts therein stated.
11 For any search of the files and records when no certified copy is
12 made the state registrar shall be entitled to a fee of fifty cents for each
13 hour or fractional part of an hour of time of search, said fee to be
14 paid by the applicant.
15 The state registrar shall keep a true and correct account of all
16 fees by him received under these provisions, and turn the same over to
17 the state treasurer each month. The state registrar shall, upon request
18 of any parent or guardian, supply, without fee, a certificate limited to
19 a statement as to the date of birth of any child when the same shall be
