SEC. 1376. Penalties—duty <strong>of</strong> county attorney.<br />

[This and the twelve preceding sections repealed by 39 G. A., ch.<br />

229, § 1. The twenty-five following sections were enacted by 39 G. A.,<br />

ch. 222, and are evidently in lieu <strong>of</strong> said repealed sections.]<br />

SEC. 1376-al. <strong>State</strong> registrar <strong>of</strong> vital statistics—duties.<br />

1 The secretary <strong>of</strong> the state board <strong>of</strong> health shall be the state regis-<br />

2 trar <strong>of</strong> vital statistics and shall have charge <strong>of</strong> the registration <strong>of</strong><br />

3 births and deaths ; shall prepare the necessary instructions, forms and<br />

4 blanks for obtaining and preserving such records and shall procure<br />

5 the faithful registration <strong>of</strong> the same in each primary registration dis-<br />

6 trict as constituted in section thirteen hundred seventy-six-a three <strong>of</strong><br />

7 this supplement, and in the central bureau <strong>of</strong> vital statistics at the<br />

8 capital <strong>of</strong> the state. The state registrar shall be charged with the<br />

9 uniform and thorough enforcement <strong>of</strong> the law throughout the state,<br />

10 and shall from time to time 1 recommend any additional legislation that<br />

11 may be necessary for this purpose.<br />

SEC 1376-a2. Clerical assistants—compensation—<strong>of</strong>fice—firepro<strong>of</strong><br />

vault.<br />

1 The state registrar shall provide for such clerical and other assist-<br />

2 ants as may be necessary for the purposes <strong>of</strong> this chapter, who shall<br />

3 serve during the pleasure <strong>of</strong> the state registrar, and may fix the com-<br />

4 pensation <strong>of</strong> persons thus employed within the amount appropriated<br />

5 therefor by the legislature. Suitable apartments shall be provided<br />

6 by the executive council for the bureau <strong>of</strong> vital statistics in the state<br />

7 capítol at Des Moines, which shall be properly equipped with firepro<strong>of</strong><br />

8 vault and filing cases for the permanent and safe preservation <strong>of</strong> all<br />

9 <strong>of</strong>ficial records made and returned under this chapter.<br />

SEC. 1376-a3. Registration districts.<br />

1 For the purpose <strong>of</strong> this chapter the state shall be divided into<br />

2 registration districts as follows: Each city, incorporated town, and<br />

3 township shall constitute a primary registration district.<br />

4 The state registrar may combine two or more primary registra-<br />

5 tion districts when necessary to facilitate registration.<br />

SEC. 1376-a4. Local registrars—appointment—tenure—removal<br />

deputy—subregistrars—duties.<br />

1 The board <strong>of</strong> supervisors, in and for each county in the state,<br />

2 shall appoint a local registrar <strong>of</strong> vital statistics for each registration
